Why do you fanfic?

Are you a write, reader, lurker, or some combo of all three? ... Or are you something else entirely?

Do you just drop by boards for the atmosphere?

Is this your unwind? Your guilty pleasure?

Have you found a kindred spirit?

Or is the place you can really feel free?

So I ask WHY DO YOU FANFIC?

OK. I'll start. I fanfic because it gives me an artistic outlet. When I started in '97 I was actually looking for 80's memorabila. I stumbled across Thundercats and Carebear fic. I was like WOW!!! It was cool, thought out and well written. I found other show fics and it steam rolled. I stumbled from there to Lois and Clark, LFN, BTVS, and several others. I found sites for books and all sorts of stuff. I didn't feel like a nerd so much anymore. I mean hey there were all these other people who like me was wandering all sorts of things and here theywere online.

So I lurked, and read feedbacked. But I'm shy. SO I did more blurking then communicating.

Then Roswell came on and being on a college campus I found others who shared this fanfic thing...but it went beyond. You could dicuss, debate, play games etc. So I stumbled onto the Roswell Fanatics, Crashdown, ezboard and The Observatory, Roswell Underground, Bordello, Easer Room, DAS, and countless other sites including a dreamer one where I possted my first fic.I've been a dreamer, folcer, all shorts buffy/angel/spike/willow/cordy ship. I been a proud member of the gerbil and die riley die, I will rember you, cheesehead and dorkbutt club. I have evolved into a ccer candy stargazer lamptrimming dreamer. I found fellow techies and even found The Tribe fic.

Heck I followed Tracie and Gerry here from underground.

Fanfic became so much more than the show. The sites became a place to hang ou. To ezpress myself. I started writing again both fic and original works. Its both a freeing and frightening experience.I have made friends, watched writers grow come leave and come back. I read epic CC UC ALT AU and everything inbetween. I even picked up a little html.

I know many of the old timers have moved on, and we have new blood now, but I thought it was important to put out there why I as well as a lot people around tbhe world do this. I even found out about NANOWRIMO from a fic board.

So to all of you guys out there...in short this fun despite the lenght of my post...dropping by the various sites brings a smile and walk down memory lane.
