Chapter 9
For a century everything was peaceful. The vampires was free to roam the earth without the constant use of blood. Jane might have disappeared from view, but they could still feel her presence with them. It might have taken her a long time to adjust to her new life, but with every passing moment she became more use to the whole idea of not being human. She could somehow feel a small trace of humanity in herself, but still it didn’t console her. Looking outside her room she thought to herself,
“I have become a cursed being! Nothing can ever be done to change what I have become” suddenly she got a memory flash. She remembered the first ten years of her life as what it was now. She remembered reading about a witch that might be able to reverse what the spell has done to her without destroying the prophecy. It was time for her to look for that witch and maybe she might be able to help her. She walked up to her window and peered outside. There she saw someone familiar in the park, Jane found herself wishing to go over there and speak with them. Somehow, she knew that it was her brother. Had he ever forgiven her for doing what she did over a century ago? She might never know for sure. Slowly, she closed her bedroom curtains and sat there waiting for death. Death that would never come to her.

Liam looked at the sun as it shone onto his face. He knew that Jane was gone, but he wished sometimes that she had not done what she did. Now the vampires can live normal lives, but she is cone. He had not seen her since that fateful day. He asked Helle and Ash if they knew where she went, but always, he got the same answer,
“No, we never saw her again. Liam you know that if she wanted to be found she would let herself be found”
“I know that Helle, but I feel responsible for what happened to her”
“We all do,” Ash said, “but what is done is done. There is no way of returning to the past”
They were sitting in the abandoned university lobby where they had studied over a century ago, when all of the sudden Helle stood up and looked around,
“I don’t know why, but I feel like Jane left something in the dorm for us. I have to go look”
She walked passed them and then went into their old room. Slowly, she looked around the room and walked over to the wall. As her hand caressed the surface she felt something irregular. With anticipation brimming in her heart, she pried out the brick and peered inside. There was an envelope hidden amongst the dust, nearly yellow with age. Slowly and carefully she took it from its resting place and looked at the two standing in the doorway,
“See I told you that she never forgot us.”
Liam walked over and looked at the letter,
“Are you sure that you want to open it?”
“No, but I think it is best. See? Our names are all written on the envelope.”
And there it was: Helle, Ash and Liam
With a shaking hand, she opened the envelope and looked at the contents
*My dearest brother, niece and Ash
When you read this letter everything will have changed. I will have crossed over to the vampire side, but not all is lost. Somehow a trace of humanity has remained in my heart. I tried to tell you sooner, but I didn’t know how to contact you. I am sorry for the problems that I caused. I found a witch that might help me with the regaining of my humanity.
Helle: you were there for me when no-one wanted to be seen with me. You even gave me the courage to change something that I never wanted to do. Thank you for being my friend and niece.
Ash: as for you. I asked you to change me and even though you could have denied me that request, you did it. Out of love for humanity, I did what I was born to do. Thank you for everything
Liam my brother: thank you for the times we did spend together. I love you and will always love you.
Yours truly: Jane

The three looked at each other and then and then at the letter in Helle’s hand, not knowing what to think. For a century they thought Jane was gone, but now they find new hope to suggest that she is not gone.
“What are we going to do with the letter?” Helle asked Liam
“The only thing we can do…take it to her parents”
“What? Are you telling me that they are still alive?” Ash asked
“Yes, they are immortal. Somehow that spell you performed on Jane changed them too. They might not be vampires, but because Jane was their daughter it changed them and they became immortal, too”
“I hope they find this letter helpful. I would hate to think that it was in vain.”
Helle took her purse and looked at the two men standing in the doorway. Then with annoyance in her voice, she asked,
“You guys coming?”
They closed the door to the dorm and stepped into the sunlight. Even nature seemed to sense that something was about to change. As for Helle, she knew that something was going to change… forever. What that something was, she and the others might never know. They decided to wait until the evening to visit Jane’s parents. All of them must be there, because they didn’t know how they might react to the fact that Jane was still in the vicinity. The day progressed quite slowly and Helle was nervous to the whole idea that her niece was still waiting for someone who might help her. Ash, didn’t feel the same anxiety as what Helle did, maybe it is because what happened a century ago was what was anticipated for him and Jane. His ordeal wasn’t the same as what the other’s was. It was finished when he changed Jane and now it wasn’t up to him to do a thing, but he decided to do it anyway. Maybe her parents could tell him more about their daughter. As for Liam, he couldn’t wait to see his sister again. To have the knowledge that she could be there again was all that he ever wanted. As the sun began to set they drove to the mansion. It was time for everyone to know about Jane. They looked at the star studded sky and then back to each other. Ash sat in the car and said,
“I think that we must tell everyone we knew a century ago and told them about the letter”
“I agree” Liam said
He took his cell-phone and dialed a few numbers, without revealing a lot he told them that they needed to meet at the mansion. There was a few gaps in the story and it kept everybody guessing on what it was.

Ash decided that he had to personally contact Franco and tell them that they want to meet at the mansion. At first Franco didn’t know what to think then he heard the urgency in Ash’s voice,
“This might be urgent” he thought

So all was planned, they were going to meet at the same spot where Jane gave her life to the group. as they came closer to the house Helle could see that her parents just arrived with Jane’s parents close by. When everyone entered she stood up and said,
“I know you all seem to ask what all this is about. Well, let me tell you” and with that she told them about the letter they found in the dorm. Jane’s mother looked at the witch and said,
“I want to know. Could she be changed back into the person she before the prophecy?”
“That I don’t know. We just have to locate her before something happens to her”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, there is still the danger of Brad. We never knew what happens to him after that fateful day”
Elaine turned pale and said,
“We have to find her before he does”

In a darker part of the town stood a shadowy figure looking at what the century had done. He cursed himself for not killing Jane when he had a chance, but it looked like he might get a chance now. Somehow he regained the trust of one of the vampires that Jane so eagerly helped and she informed him that Jane is still alive and willing to let some novice of a witch help her to regain her mortality. Maybe now he can kill that bitch for ruining his life twice. Or maybe it would help if he turns Jane and make her as evil as what he is? Brad looked at his cell-phone hoping to hear from Erica. Suddenly the phone rang and with an annoyed tone he answered the phone,
“Any new news?”
“Sir, the group decided to look for Jane and protect her against you”
He looked at the cell-phone in his hand and then at the stars, silently he cursed and with anger in his voice he bellowed,
“Then we have to make sure that we find her before they ruin it for us”
“I’ll keep you inform” Erica said

Jane took her bags and began to pack it. This was going to be a tiresome trip and she will need all her belongings with her. If only she knew who the witch was that could help her. The only evidence she had was e-mails that she shared with the girl. Was this the right thing for her to do, or is she grasping at straws? Her heart told her that it was the right thing, but her mind said that she has to let it be. She closed her room and stepped into the night air. This was going to be her time and no-one is going to keep it from her. She walked to the bus-station and waited for the bus to arrive. As she waited her mind began to wonder to her brother and the others that helped her so long ago. Maybe she acted too rash, maybe it wasn’t her time to leave her mortality? Suddenly she heard the approaching bus and as she climbed into it she decided that the best thing she could do was to let the fates determine her life for her. As the bus pulled out of the station she looked at the scene as it went by her. With a tired expression on her face she closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.

Andrea Star was anxious to meet the vampire that she must help. She heard through the grapevine that this was the shape-shifter that helped the clans a century ago and now she is going to meet the girl. As she looked at her watch she saw that it was still a few hours till she has to leave for the bus station. She went into her room and paged through her belongings, suddenly she saw a photograph of herself with an old friend,
“What happened to Jane?” she thought to herself, “We were inseparable”
she was still in deep thought when she heard her mother entering the house,
“Andrea, are you here?”
“Yes, mother. I am”
“What time are you leaving for the bus-stop?”
“Well, as a matter of a fact I am about to leave”
“Just be careful. Not everyone knows about your guest”
“Even I don’t know much about her”
She walked up to her mother and asked,
“Do you know something?”
Her mother turned towards her and said with a soft voice,
“I heard from the coven that had a lot to do with her over the years and they said she is the most unselfish person they ever met”.
“I better leave” Andrea replied and left her mother standing in the hallway

Chapter 10
The group in San Francisco was still deep in the dark about who the witch might be that could help Jane regain what she had lost. Only one knew the identity and that was Franco, as the group entered the study he turned to them and said,
“I know that you are burning with questions on who the witch might be and I assure you when I found out I was skeptical. All I know is that she is a novice and she is pure of heart”
“Who is it?” Jane’s parents asked
Franco sat down and pulled out a file,
“The two of you know her”
This shocked them and they looked at the vampire hoping that it was just a joke, when they looked into his eyes they could see that he is telling them the truth. Jane’s mother turned to Franco and asked,
“ Please, could you tell us who it is?”
Franco saw the pain in Emily’s eyes and said,
“Her name is Andrea Star. She is about Jane’s age now”
“You mean to tell us that the person who might help my baby is suppose to be 19 years old!”
He looked at the group again and said that Andrea wasn’t actually a novice, she had practice in her craft and now she was ready for the most difficult task ever. That is to help a Shape-Shifter turned vampire to become herself once more. As he explained the situation to them Jane’s father looked up with recognition in his eyes, he looked at his wife and said,
“Emily, Andrea Star was Jane’s friend when she was younger”
She felt a relieve enter her body as she heard the truth and said,
“I just hope everything goes well”
“We all hope that everything goes well. We don’t want to loose her”
With that knowledge they left the mansion each with their own thoughts on what might be happening to Jane.

A few miles north of San Francisco Jane sat in the bus looking at the scene as it passed her by. In a way she was anxious to see if the young woman could help her regain her humanity. All she knew was this life was pulling her down. Yes, she wanted to do it a century ago, but the time has come that she goes on with her life and with what she is now she can’t fathom a life. She was nothing …maybe she was something to those she helped, but to herself she was nothing. The bus came to a sudden halt and she stepped out, as she looked around she saw but one girl. For a while she stood there not wanting to move, but decided to face her new life.
“Excuse me?” she heard from behind and as she turned around she looked directly into the face of her best friend
“Andrea is that you?”
“Jane…I never thought that I would see you again, I didn’t know that you are immortal too”
“What do you mean by immortal too?”
Andrea told her that after she left San Francisco she tried hard to fit into life, but five years after she left everything changed. She found out that every Night Person she met was immortal and they didn’t know why. All that they could tell her that some Shape-Shifter helped the vampires and that is what was what made them immortal. She also told her that she was here to meet the Shape-Shifter/vampire to see if she could help the girl with the regaining of her mortality. Jane looked at her former child friend and said,
“Andrea it is I that you are looking for”
“What…Are you saying that you are the Shape-Shifter every one talked about?”
“Yes I am, but I am tired and I want to be normal again and that is why I am here. I want you to help me”
“I can try, but I don’t know if I can”

Chapter 11

Post by TessHardingEvans »

I hope you guys enjoy the prealtimate chapter of my novel
~*~
Chapter 11
In San Francisco the entire community was eager to hear if Jane had arrived at her destination. The witches somehow knew that Brad was still around somewhere in the dark trying to kill Jane and they suspected that it was someone in the vampire clan that was spying for him.Helle turned towards her mother and asked,
“Do you think Jane will be the same after all this?”
”I don’t know. All I know is that this is the right time for it to happen. I never told you this, but when I met Jane the time I could see the purest soul ever. I knew that she would never let anyone corrupt her. All I know is that Brad is evil, the purest form of evil and he will do everything in his power to influence her”
The darkness of a cave was visible from the first moment she entered the cave. A faint light was visible. One of the Fates was looking at the tapestry as it lay in front of her. She sighed and called her sisters together,
“Something is happening to the fate of Jane”
“What do you mean?” Fate of the past asked
“I see that the light of her soul has been activated”
“What are you going to do about that?”
“I don’t know, but I think we need to wait and see what this is leading to”
With that they decided to leave the tapestry as it wove itself into a new pattern.
Jane climbed out of the car and squinted at the blazing sun. She knew that this was it; there was no way of turning back. Andrea nudged her forward and said,
“There is no need to be scared. My mother will accept everything that we must do”
“I know that, but I still feel obligated to everyone that I helped a century ago”
“We will take a look at our family’s Book of Shadows and maybe there is a way that we can restore your mortality without jeopardizing the prophecy”
Jane tried to smile, but without success. It felt to her as if she was alone in the world that had forgotten about her existence. She walked into the living room waiting for what was supposed to happen to her. Andrea’s mother was in the kitchen when she heard the door open,
“Andrea, you’re home early”
“I know, but you will never guess who I am suppose to help”
Her mother came out of the kitchen and looked at the girl standing next to her daughter. A glimpse of recognition was written on her face, but she knew that she had to act with caution. So she looked at her daughter and it was as if the look on her face was that of someone who just got her best friend back. Slowly she walked up to Jane and placed her hands on the girl’s shoulders,
“Jane…I would have never guessed that you were the one they talked about”
Jane looked at the woman who was like a second mother to her, that was before they left her and said,
“I know what you mean. When you left…you left me just when I needed you. Why?”
Andrea’s mother bowed her head and said,
“I don’t know how to explain it, but it was as if someone wanted us to leave”
Jane couldn’t get anything new out of the two women and knew that now she had her fate in their hands. With question in her eyes she asked Andrea if she had the spell ready that was suppose to help her regain her mortality. Andrea looked at her and said,
“Jane, it is going to take a lot of research before I can perform that spell. There is still the matter of who you want to be near when I perform that spell”
“What do you mean?” she asked
Andrea revealed to her that she needed a relative with her when she decided to perform that spell,
“Does anyone know where you are?”
“Well, so far I have kept myself scarce so I don’t even know if they are alive”
For a while there was silence in the room, then Andrea said,
“We can try to find out if there is someone alive”
Eagerness was written on Jane’s face. She hoped that all that she had done for the group wasn’t in vain. She needed her family now. She sat down and asked,
“How are you going to find out if someone is still alive?”
“All we have to do is call some of our friends in San Francisco and ask them if they know if any of your family is still alive”
“Please do that. I want to see my family again”

Andrea also informed her that there might be a downside to the spell and that is, she might die. Jane was shocked to hear that, but she knew that she had to do something. With that she told her friends that they must contact anyone who could help her.

Chapter12 Complete

Post by TessHardingEvans »

it took me a long time to complete my novel, but here it is the final chapter. I am thinking of writing a prequel
~*~

Chapter 12
Erica was looking at the setting sun, she could still remember the day Brad came to her with the proposal. He had told her that if and when they found out if Jane was alive then she should come to him with this information and he would generously reward her, for, he could give her a world of wealth. For a while she fought against it, she didn’t want to cause a rift within her family. All she wanted was to know her brother would be there for her, but that changed when Jane the Shape-Shifter came into their lives. Jane had caused so much pain for her, to know that she could be killed elated her a lot. She wanted that bitch to pay for the pain she caused.
As she entered her room, she packed up all her belongings and left her apartment. Time for reckoning was now and nothing could stop her. She took her cell-phone and dialed Brad’s number,
“Brad, I just found out where Jane can be found”
“You better get your act together and try to lure her away from that witch”
“I will try my best”
“No trying…you must do it!”
“I can’t force her”
“Use your brother’s name if anything else failed”
With that she agreed to do it.

Brad terminated the call and smiled, at last Cassandra would be no more, even if he had to kill the person that Cassandra’s spirit inhabits. He walked up to his car and climbed into it. To know that someone close to the girl would be responsible for her death.

In San Francisco, Ash was standing with the rest of the clan hoping for news of Jane. He knew that if Jane was alive she would be in danger. Brad wouldn’t hesitate to destroy her. He looked with a questionable glare at Liam,
“I know what you are asking and I must say…I don’t know”
“It is just we don’t know what Brad is planning for her”
“And we don’t know the extent of his evil”
“How are we going to warn her?”
“There is nothing we can do. We can just hope that she never comes into contact with him”
“I agree. Jane doesn’t need more complications in her life. Let us just hope that Andrea can help her without destroying what the prophecy has done for us”
As Liam looked at Ash he could see that the boy was worried about the fact that if Andrea reversed the prophecy it would mean that it was back to square one for him and his clan. It was something that they didn’t need.

Andrea took Jane to see her room and said,
“I will go and take a look at our family’s Book of Shadows to see if there is a spell that can be use to remove what the prophecy has done to you without destroying what it has accomplished”
“I hope that it can be done and soon. I want to see my family, especially my brother and parents”
“Which one would you like to be present when we and if I’m able to find and perform the spell?”
Jane stood still for a moment and then said,
“At the moment I don’t know. Let me sleep on it and I will inform you tomorrow”
“Sure thing”
With those words they retired to their sleeping quarters where they tried to catch up on a hundred lost years. Jane heard from Andrea that after they moved away she was sent to a boarding school where they tried to help her control her powers and in those years she heard the rumors about a Shape-Shifter that would help all the night people. Andrea, then heard about what happened to Jane and how she willingly gave away her mortality and along the way she had found her brother. That night, Jane slept better than she had did in a long time. Maybe it was because at last there was someone who could help her become human. As she drifted off to sleep she began to wonder what happened to her family.

The night made way for day and as Jane woke up she felt the sun on her face. All the worries that had been accumulated over the past hundred years was taken away.

In an alley not so far from the Star’s home Erica was waiting for the right time to corner Jane. She knew that if her brother found out that she was the one who betrayed the shape-shifter he would kill her, because she heard from him that anyone who helped Brad or who was going to help him, was going to get the same treatment as what Brad was going to get and that was Death. For about an hour she tried to find the right words to con Jane to come with her, but she couldn’t. iIt was as if there was some flicker of conscience in her that didn’t want her to do what she was about to do. She closed her eyes, breathed in deep and removed herself from her hidden place. It was now or never. Slowly she walked towards the Star’s house and knocked onto the wooden door. It was Andrea that opened the door for her,
“Yes, may I help you?”
“Um…my name is Erica. I would like to speak to Jane”
“Just a moment. Let me go get her”
She stepped into the living room and waited for Jane to make herself known. Jane came into the room and looked at the girl that stood there. She sat down and asked,
“How did you find out where I was?”
“Well, it was hard, but you know my brother”
“And who might that be?” she asked
When Erica told her that Ash was her brother she relaxed a little bit more. She didn’t want Brad to find out where she was. If that happened then all that she had accomplished all those years ago would be for nothing. She sat there for a while when suddenly she said,
“What news is there of the others?”
“Well, they all know that you found someone who might be able to help you regain your mortality. All that worried them is the fact that they didn’t want the prophecy to be destroyed”
“That is why I am here. I asked Andrea here to help me find a spell that could help me become more like what I was before the spell and try not to destroy the prophecy at all”
Erica could see that Jane was serious when she said that she wanted to be herself again. It was written in her eyes. For a while she didn’t want to destroy Jane’s hope for happiness, but Brad was counting on her to deliver the Shape-Shifter/vampire into his grasp. Again there was a moment of silence, then she said,
“I am staying in at hotel not so far from here. I would love it if you could come and visit me. There’s a lot I want to tell you about Ash”
Jane told her that she would love to visit her, but they could make it the next day, because they were looking for the spell that might reverse the prophecy without destroying its properties. Erica gave a fake smile, then nodded,
“Sure”
With those words she left Jane and Andrea in the doorway.

Andrea looked towards Jane and asked,
“Do you trust her?”
“I don’t know…I mean. I didn’t know William had a sister”
“You must be careful who you trust”
“I know. That is why I hesitated. My head tells me I can trust her, but my heart says something else”
“Let us retire for the night and we can continue tomorrow”
“Sure thing”
With those words they both retired to their separate rooms. Jane closed her eyes, it was as if a peaceful feeling washed over her
Andrea was restless, she couldn’t sleep and with that she decided that the best thing she could do was to try and locate the spell. As she paged through their family’s Book of Shadows she looked at every known and even unknown spells. Suddenly a page jumped out towards her: To undo a vampire spell: Slowly, but carefully she read the words written on the page,
* A vampire is immortal, but if someone is made into one willingly without destroying what was done to make the person into one. There is one thing that can be done to undo what was done* for a while she stopped reading, but with a soft whisper she read the spell. It was then that Andrea knew that Jane’s entire family must be present.
Erica was still waiting to hear from Jane, she knew that Brad wouldn’t accept any failure from her. She told him that she could deliver Jane to him and lure her to the dark side and that was what she was going to do.

In San Francisco Helle's mother felt the restless air coming towards her. It was as if something was warning her. As she told the group about her intuition, they knew Jane needed to be protected from the danger that was approaching her. William tried to locate his sister, but when he couldn’t find her it was as if he knew Erica was helping Brad. Liam and Jane’s family again hoped that they would see her again.

The next morning Jane came into the kitchen and as she looked at the two women sitting there, she said,
“Well, I think that I need to see Erica. There is a message I’d like her to give to Ash and the others”
“Jane, please be careful. I don’t trust her”
“I will” with those words she walked out and dialed Erica’s cell-number. When Erica answered the phone and heard that it was Jane on the other side, she had realized. The mouse has taken the bait. She told Jane where they were going to meet. As she ended the call, she dialed Brad and told him that all was set. Now they could get her to their side.

Andrea looked at her mother and said that they had to contact the coven and vampires in San Francisco and tell them that Jane was in great danger. Her mother looked at her and with a nod of her head she walked over to the phone. She dialed William’s number and told them the news. As William listened to the woman it was confirmed Jane was about to walk into a trap and that they must stop it. He rushed towards the others and gave them the news. With a rush they all agreed that they must go and stop Brad from killing or even turning her evil. Liam and Jane’s parents were glad to finally be able to see her,

Jane stood in front of the hotel room that Erica gave her. She was hoping that the message she was going to give Erica would console her family. Slowly, she raised her hand and knocked softly onto the wooden door. Erica opened the door and invited Jane into her room,
“Jane, before you give me the message there is someone here who wanted to speak to you”
Brad walked into the room and with an evil grin he said,
“Good morning Jane. It’s good to see you again”
Jane turned pale and with a shocked expression she asked Erica,
“Why?”
“Simple…I hate this existence. You poisoned my family’s mind with your good heart and I want my life back!”
“All I did, was to give you a life and all I want is my mortality back!” with that she sat on a chair…defeated.
Brad looked at her and said,
“I give you a choice…join me or die”
She looked at the man she despised for so long, but slowly without him knowing it she pulled the dagger out that Liam gave to her all those years ago out of her shoe, then she said as she rushed towards him,
“I will never join you…and you are the one who is going to die” those were her last words to him as she plunged the dagger into his heart. He slumped towards the ground and uttered his last words,
“BITCH!”
Jane turned to Erica, before she left and said,
“I forgive you”

Andrea and her mother were sitting in the living room, when they heard the screeching sound of a vehicle. Andrea walked towards the window and saw a group of people exiting the vehicle.
“I think it’s Jane’s family” she told her mother and with that she opened the front door.
“You are just in time” she said
“Andrea, I’m glad you are here for Jane”
“It’s my pleasure Mrs. Peters. Won’t you guys come in?”
“Thank you”
Liam stood there, then asked,
“Any news from Jane?”
“I haven’t seen her since this morning”
“Was Erica with her?” Ash asked
“No, but Erica did come and see her last night. I just have a bad feeling…”
She was still busy talking, when the front door opened again. Bewildered, Jane looked at the group standing there,
“Jane…!” her mother cried and rushed towards her daughter and hugged her.
“Mom, I thought that I will never see you again”
“Honey, we will always be there for you” her father said
“Where’s Brad?” she heard Liam ask.
She turned towards her brother and said,
“Dead…I killed him”
“Erica…where’s she?”
“I left her in her hotel room. I don’t think she understood the whole prophecy and what it meant”
“Speaking of the prophecy. I found the spell” Andrea informed them
This piquet their attention and as she recited it to them they knew it was the right time to be there.

Helle looked at Jane and asked,
“Are you sure you want to do this?”
“Yes, I’m tired of living this solitary life”
“What about your immortality?” Ash asked
“I’d rather be mortal with friends and family than immortal with enemies”
“Good then” Andrea said, “The harvest moon is tonight. We can complete the spell then”
That afternoon the group talked about what had happened in the past hundred years. Jane told them about her lonely life and that she wanted to be normal again. Suddenly Andrea came up to them and said,
“It’s time”
With an excited heart Jane walked into the garden. Andrea did the same ritual as what Yolanda did and gave them each a candle to hold. She opened the Book and with a clear voice she said,
“Power from the Air
Power from the Earth
Power given at her birth
Remove the prophecy from her heart
But do not let it fall apart
So it is written
So it is done”
All of the sudden a bright white light surrounded Jane as thunder was heard. It grew quiet and with a puzzled look they turned to the centre of the circle,
“Jane are you all right?”
“Never better” she smiled
The vampires turned to each other and saw that the prophecy was still intact. Their lives were still the same as what it was. Jane walked to her family and for the first time in a hundred years she could give them all a hug without being scared of being stalked.

Ah, nice ending! And as for this line...
“What about your immortality?” Ash asked
“I’d rather be mortal with friends and family than immortal with enemies”
