Title: Like the Rain
Author: Jenny
Disclaimer: Not mine.
Pairing: Sean/Tess
Rating: YTEEN
Summary: Tess goes for a walk and helps a stranded motorist. Ficlet; 472 words.
Author’s Note: For Anniepoo98, who wanted Sean/Tess with the prompt, rain.

“Nice day for a walk.”

Startled, Tess Harding looked up from watching the raindrops hit the sidewalk to search out the owner of the voice that had just spoken. He was leaning against the hood of an old Beetle, arms folded across his chest and legs crossed at the ankles. It took her a second to recognize him, but then she remembered - Maria’s delinquent cousin, Sean.

“What are you doing out here?” Tess asked. She could tell he’d been there for at least a little while; his hair was damp and little droplets were rolling down the front of his leather jacket.

“Locked my keys in the car,” he replied with a shrug, like it was no big deal that he was obviously stranded in the rain.

“Aren’t you supposed to be some expert at breaking and entering?” Tess asked before she could stop herself. “Can’t you get into your own car?”

“Hardy har har. You think I didn’t try?”

It was then that she noticed a warped wire coat hanger discarded on the ground. She gestured to it. “Why don’t you let me give it a try?”

He looked at her skeptically. “What makes you think you’ll have any better luck?”

“Fine.” Tess threw her hands up. “I was just trying to help, but whatever. Sit out here in the rain all day.”

She started to walk away, but hadn’t made it two steps before Sean called out, “Okay! Sorry. Go ahead, give it a whirl.” He offered her the coat hanger.

She quirked a satisfied smile at him and took the hanger. Taking it and walking over to the driver’s side door of the Beetle, she slid it into the crevice between the door frame and the window. Then, situating herself so that Sean couldn’t see exactly what she was doing, she placed her hand on the door and focused her energy. She smiled when she heard the satisfying click of the lock.

“Got it,” she announced, turning around to face Sean.

He looked at her in bewilderment. “How did you do that?”

She handed the coat hanger back to him. “It just needed a woman’s touch, that’s all,” she teased.

Sean just stared at her, baffled. He obviously didn’t think she’d be able to get his car unlocked. Tess pulled her jacket tighter around her; the rain drops were getting heavier.

“Do you want a ride or something?” Sean asked, finally finding his voice.

“No, that’s okay. I like the rain.”

“You sure? It’s getting kind of cold.”

Tess nodded. “I’m sure. I’ll see you around, Sean.”

“Yeah. See ya.” He waved lamely.

Tess turned away from him and began walking down the sidewalk. She took a few steps and chanced a glance back; Sean was still standing in the rain, watching her walk away.

Tess just smiled.

Title: All of the Above
Author: Jenny
Disclaimer: Nothing belongs to me.
Pairing: Michael/Maria (with implied Max/Liz and Kyle/Isabel)
Rating: TEEN
Summary: After several weeks on the road, Liz and Maria convince the gang to make a pit stop for a little post-Graduation fun. Michael thinks this is a bad idea. Ficlet; 943 words.
Author’s Note: For Eva. Hope this is satisfactory - I'm still kinda weak with the Candy. ;)

***

Michael Guerin was sulking.

So what’s new, you ask? What else could Michael find to sulk about? Could it be that he’d been dragged against his will into the midst of a hundred sweaty, gyrating teenagers? Could it be that he’d gotten into a fight with his girlfriend, just weeks after a long-awaited reunion? Could it be that said girlfriend was now dancing way too close for comfort with some complete stranger?

The answer: all of the above.

He folded his arms across his chest in defiance and watched with narrowed eyes as Maria seemed to be having the time of her life on the makeshift dance floor. He knew what she was doing - trying to make him jealous. Well, she could just forget about it. He wasn’t jealous that some fool had his hands on her hips and was dancing so close to his girl that it was a wonder they could breathe at all. Michael growled under his breath. Nope, not jealous at all.

It had all started that morning, when they’d stopped for breakfast at a greasy diner in some small Southern town, very reminiscent of Roswell. In the short time that they were there, Liz and Maria struck up a conversation with a local teenager, and managed to get them all invited to a graduation night shindig for the nearby high school. The girls all wanted to go, insisting that it would be a great stress reliever after nearly three weeks on the road. Max, of course, was not hard to convince after a little sweet talking from Liz, and Kyle was all for it, too. Michael was the only one who protested, saying it was a bad idea for them to be in such a public venue.

But of course he’d been out-voted and here they were. Then he and Maria had gotten into a heated argument when she tried to get him to loosen up and have some fun, finally telling him to “just go back to the motel if you’re going to be such a killjoy!” Instead he’d chosen to sit in a corner and sulk.

“Maybe you should cut her a little slack.”

Michael glanced up and saw Isabel standing over him, offering him a plastic cup of soda. He took it and mumbled a thanks.

“They gave up a lot for us,” Isabel said simply before walking away and joining Kyle at the edge of the dance floor. Michael watched as she coaxed him onto the floor, both of them laughing as Kyle awkwardly moved to the music.

Michael thought about what Isabel had just said. It was true - Maria had given up a lot to join them on the road. Sometimes he forgot that. They’d been cooped up in that old van for weeks, stopping only to sleep and eat. Could he really fault her - any of them - for wanting to let loose for just one night?

With a sigh of resignation, he stood up from the plastic folding chair he’d been warming for the last half hour and made his way to the dance floor. He came up behind Maria’s current partner and nudged him. “Hey, beat it,” he told the kid, giving him a piercing look that the Hulk wouldn’t have argued with.

“What do you want, Michael?” Maria asked, her hands on her hips. She looked ready for another fight.

“I came to dance,” he responded.

“Yeah, right,” Maria scoffed with a roll of her eyes.

“I did,” he insisted. “But not like that,” he added with distaste, gesturing to two teenagers grinding against each other like they were extras in that Patrick Swayze movie from the ’80s.

He took Maria’s hand and pulled her to him, and she seemed to hesitate for only a second before letting herself be pulled into his arms. As a dance song sounded around them and the other bodies moved in rhythm with the music, they moved slowly together.

“I’m sorry,” Michael said.

“For what?” Maria asked. “For being a jerk? For trying to ruin my fun? Or are you just sorry that some other guy has had his hands on me all night?”

Michael winced. “All of the above,” he answered sheepishly. “I know you just wanted to have some fun tonight.”

Maria stopped dancing and pulled away slightly. “It’s more than that, Michael. I didn’t get to have a graduation party. Hell, I didn’t even make it through my whole graduation ceremony.”

As if sensing that he was about to apologize again, Maria said, “I’m not sorry I came. It’s just, this whole on-the-run-from-the-FBI thing… it doesn’t have to be such serious business all the time, does it?”

Michael smiled in spite of himself. “I guess not,” he answered.

“And it’s okay to have some fun every once in a while?” Maria prodded.

Michael nodded, and then added, “But I’m still not going to dance like that in public.”

Maria gave him a genuine smile, the first one he’d seen on her face all night. “Deal,” she said. “How about in private?” she asked, lifting her eyebrow suggestively.

Michael chuckled and pulled Maria back into his arms. “We’ll see.”

Another argument successfully resolved, Michael wondered what it was he loved most about this girl. Was it that she’d left the only home she’d ever known just to be with him? Was it the way that she always kept him on his toes, so that fighting with her was almost as fun as making up? Was it the fact that she got more and more beautiful everyday, even after weeks on the road?

The answer: all of the above.

Title: You Healed Me
Author: Jenny
Disclaimer: Nothing belongs to me.
Pairing: Michael/Maria
Rating: YTEEN
Summary: Pillow talk, set during Departure. Drabble; 100 words.
Author’s Note: For insidious heart, who wanted Michael/Maria with the prompt “healing.”

***

“Last year, when Max healed Liz, I was pissed at him for a long time. I couldn’t understand why he would risk exposure like that.” Michael’s voice was soft in the dark room. Maria didn’t speak, but he knew she was awake and listening.

“But I get it now, because…” He could hardly believe what he was about to say, but it was important, now more than ever, that she know how he felt. “Because you healed me, Maria,” he finished.

In response, Maria pulled her body just a little bit tighter against his. “We healed each other,” she said.

Title: I Do
Author: Jenny
Disclaimer: Nothing belongs to me.
Pairing: Max/Liz
Rating: YTEEN
Summary: Max’s POV during his wedding to Liz (in the AU Vegas wedding referenced in EOTW). Drabble; 100 words.
Author’s Note: For Katrie. This is my first attempt at M/L, so be gentle.

***

As he placed the ring upon Liz’s slender finger, Max could hardly believe that he wasn’t dreaming. Because how many times had he dreamed this? He’d loved Liz Parker since the first moment he saw her, and had spent his teenage years fantasizing that someday she would take his name, never imagining that it might actually come true.

And now, as they both prepared to speak those two magic words, he vowed to spend the rest of his life making sure that all her dreams came true. At the prompting of the officiating Elvis impersonator, he spoke clearly.

“I do.”

Title: Bad Day
Author: Jenny
Disclaimer: Nothing belongs to me.
Pairing: Kyle/Isabel
Rating: YTEEN
Summary: Isabel is having a bad day. Set in the Sunrise universe. Ficlet; 856 words.
Author’s Note: For Pooh and midwestmax. This is a bit on the cheesy side, but I hope you like it. :)

***

It had been a long time since anyone had seen the Ice Queen side of Isabel Evans-Valenti, but today might be the day she was unleashed on the world again.

She should have known the day was going to be hell when she had prepared to leave for work that morning and discovered that her car had a flat tire. Since she was already running late and didn’t have time to wait for Kyle to change it, she’d been forced to take his car to work, and driving a manual transmission up and down the hills of San Francisco was murder on her nerves.

The day had gone completely downhill from there. Her student assistant was out sick, leaving no one to cover the main phone line and forcing Isabel to work through lunch. Her co-chair on the graduation committee had backed out due to “personal reasons,” leaving Isabel scrambling and begging her colleagues for any help with a ceremony that was only a week away. And to top it all off, the movers had called, apologizing profusely because they’d overbooked and needed to reschedule for another day. Which meant that Isabel and Kyle both would have to juggle and rearrange their own schedules.

At least it’s Friday, Isabel thought to herself as she collapsed into the driver’s seat of the car. Kyle had called a couple of hours earlier to tell her that he was going to go ahead and take some boxes to the new house, and for Isabel to meet him and Nicole there and they would go grab some dinner. The thought of a nice meal with her husband and daughter was the only thing that had gotten Isabel through the remainder of the afternoon.

Though it was a short drive, Isabel struggled with the stick shift all the way from the school to the house, slewing a string of curses that would have made a sailor blush. She would be so glad when she was back in her own vehicle.

She was dismayed, however, to find Kyle’s police cruiser in the driveway when she arrived. Isabel hoped and prayed that did not mean that he hadn’t changed her tire.

Isabel stalked into the house, assaulted by the smell of the fresh coat of paint that had just been applied. She groaned when she saw the mess that the workers had left in the living room. I guess it’s a good thing the movers won’t be coming tomorrow after all, she thought.

It was an exciting time for Isabel and Kyle, building their own house, but it was also one of the most stressful things they had ever been through, and she would be so glad when everything was said and done and they could just enjoy it. Their two-bedroom townhouse had seemed to get a little bit smaller everyday, and since they’d recently broached the subject of having another baby, it was only natural for them move into a true family home.

“Kyle?” Isabel called out, setting off in search when she got no response. She muttered a curse when she tripped over some plastic sheets that were left in the middle of the floor. There seemed to be no end to the day’s annoyances.

She was about halfway up the stairs when the sound of her four-year-old’s laughter reached her ears. She could hear the soft murmur of Kyle’s voice as well, and followed the sound to what would be Nicole’s bedroom. She stopped in the doorway and smiled at the sight before her. Kyle and Nicole were seated, Indian style, on the floor in the middle of the mostly-bare room, a miniature tea set between them. Isabel recognized it as the porcelain set that her parents had given Nicole for Christmas.

“More tea, Princess?” Kyle asked, holding the tiny teapot in his hand. Isabel smiled at the image.

“Yes, please,” Nicole responded politely. She held out her cup and Kyle tipped the pot, pouring some imaginary tea.

“Would Kensington like some?”

“No, Daddy, Kensington doesn’t like tea,” the little girl responded matter-of-factly, referring to her favorite toy - a stuffed raccoon that she’d had since she was a baby.

“What does he like then?” Kyle asked.

“Kensington likes Kool-Aid. But only the red kind,” Nicole answered.

“Well, as luck would have it, I have some red Kool-Aid in this cup right here,” Kyle said, pushing a tiny porcelain cup in front of the raccoon.

Isabel’s heart swelled and tears nearly sprung to her eyes as she watched the scene before her. Instantly, everything that had gone wrong during the day and every little annoyance were nothing but a distant memory. This, right here, was the only thing that mattered.

“Is there enough for me?” Isabel asked, stepping into the room and revealing her presence.

“Mommy!” Nicole exclaimed as Isabel seated herself on the floor with her family.

“Hi, baby girl,” Isabel said as her daughter climbed into her lap.

“Hey, babe,” Kyle greeted, leaning over and kissing her cheek. “How was your day?”

Isabel smiled, basking in the glow of her husband and daughter. “Now it’s perfect,” she answered.

Title: What I Did On My Summer Vacation
Author: Jenny
Disclaimer: Nothing belongs to me.
Pairing: Max-centric (one-sided Max/Liz)
Rating: CHILD
Summary: Pre-Pilot. Max struggles with a school assignment. Ficlet; 300 words.
Author’s Note: For Sirio.

***

Max Evans tapped the eraser of his pencil against his desk, staring in vain at the blank piece of paper before him. The title he’d scratched across the top stared bleakly back at him, mocking him. “What I Did On My Summer Vacation,” it read. When would he escape having to write this same essay year after year? Did the teachers actually think they were being original with this assignment?

It wasn’t as if he didn’t have things to write about. Quite the contrary. His parents always made a point to ensure that he and Isabel enjoyed their summer vacations, usually taking trips to places like Florida’s beaches or Disneyland. They hadn’t been anywhere exotic this summer, but they had taken a couple of camping trips to the nearby national forest.

Max had already sneaked a glance at Isabel’s completed essay - she’d written a rather lengthy piece on the “exciting and educational” week she’d spent “interning” at their father’s law office. She was clearly just trying to impress their teacher, because Max knew for a fact that she’d hated every minute of it.

With a sigh, Max thought back over the events of the summer - the camping trips with Isabel and their parents, hanging out with Michael, playing video games or combing the desert for artifacts - but everything came up short in comparison to one particular event that had happened over the summer.

Pencil poised in hand, Max finally began to write something across his piece of notebook paper. He knew he would scrap it, never actually turn it in for his assignment, but writing it down seemed to make it feel more real.

My name is Max Evans, he wrote, and this summer I finally talked to Liz Parker. The girl I’m going to marry someday.

Author: Jenny
Disclaimer: Nothing belongs to me.
Pairing: Alex/Isabel
Rating: TEEN
Summary: Isabel and Alex post-prom. Bittersweet. Drabble; 100 words.
Author’s Note: For vegas312. I didn’t set out for this to be angsty, but it kinda is, soooo… hope you like. :)

***

Isabel sucked in a breath when Alex’s fingers danced across her bare stomach, and she flinched slightly beneath his touch. He was nervous, too; she could feel it in his labored breathing and the way his fingers trembled against her skin.

They wouldn’t go all the way, not tonight. It was too soon. Isabel was content to just be in the moment with him, to revel in their newly discovered love. She silently thanked her lucky stars that she hadn’t realized her feelings too late.

Besides, there was no need to rush. They had all the time in the world.

Title: Just Drive East
Author: Jenny
Disclaimer: Nothing belongs to me, as usual.
Pairing: Michael/Maria
Rating: YTEEN
Summary: Sometimes dreams do come true. Sort of a sequel to You Healed Me. Drabble; 100 words.
Author’s Note: For tequathisy, who wanted Michael/Maria with the prompt “beach.”

***

“If you could leave here tonight and go anywhere, where would you go?”

Maria answered Michael’s question without hesitation. “New York,” she said simply, a dreamy smile on her face. “What about you?”

“Florida, the beach,” Michael answered. “Max used to always invite me to go with them when we were kids, but I never would. Now I kinda wish I had.”

And so, just over a year later, when Max sat behind the wheel of an old VW bus and wondered where they were supposed to go, Maria and Michael caught each other’s eyes.

“Just start driving east, Maxwell.”
