Title: Different Times
Author: Roswellkitkat
Rating: Teen to Adult, some language, but not bad.
Category:AU Max and Liz..find each other after 10 years.
Disclaimer: I own nothing Roswell, only the idea behind this fiction. Please don't sue.
This is an AU fanfic. This is my version of the chain events of Liz getting shot but not seriously. While in HS she never finds out Max and the gang are aliens, she never dates Max, etc. etc. The couples are CC, except for Liz actually being with someone besides Max. It is their 10 year high school reunion and she is going back.
As always feedback welcome.
I sat by the pool and sifted through my mail. Then I saw it…a letter from the Roswell High Reunion Committee. I had totally forgotten that my reunion was this year. Maria had not reminded me…she reminded me everyday about visiting Roswell and here was the perfect excuse to hound me.
I tore the envelope open and staring at me was a picture of Isabel Evans and Alex Whitman as prom Queen and King our senior year. I smiled as I remember the hell Alex had gone through to get Isabel to even look in his direction our sophomore year…the year I was shot and how it seemed to change the rest of my life.
12 years earlier…
It had been normal day at the Crashdown. The place was packed due to the annual UFO Festival that was to be held in a few days. Maria, my best friend since the third grade was working the afternoon shift with me. She had just whispered something to me about Max Evans looking at me, for what seemed like the hundreth time.
“Girl…he is so watching you,” she said with a big grin.
“Maria, Max Evans knows I’m dating Kyle…everyone knows I’m with Kyle,”
“And? Doesn’t mean they can’t look, chica,”
I turned in Max Evans general direction and sure enough he was looking at me. I smiled and looked away, catching Michael Guerin staring at Maria. She would love that news. I turned to find her when I heard two men raising their voices.
“I only asked if you wanted coffee,” I heard Maria saying.
“Look little girl, get the hell out of here,” one of the men brusquely responded.
I saw Maria make a face and walk away from their table. I turned away and then remembered I wanted to tell her about Michael and walked back in that direction.
“Oh my God, he has a gun!” I heard Maria yell.
I saw the gun and before I knew it, it was pointed in my direction as the two men struggled for control and then the shot rang out. They say when things like this happen, it seems like minutes pass and everything happens in slow motion. This was no different, I had no time to react and just stood there staring.
“LIZ!” I heard someone yell.
The shot rang out and I felt a warm sensation across the outer apart of my left arm. The next thing I knew Max Evans was pulling me out the way and to the floor.
“Someone call 911,” I heard a customer say.
“LIZ!? Are you hit?” I heard Maria shriek.
I could feel something warm dripping down my arm and turned to look.
“Doesn’t look too bad? How do you feel? “ Max Evans was asking me.
I stared at him and began to feel even warmer. He looked so concerned, so worried. This was Max Evans who I sat next to in lab and was so shy, Max Evans who only hung out with Michael and Isabel. I nodded and looked at my arm again…oh my God, I was bleeding. And this is where I fainted.
That had been the beginning of my sophomore year at Roswell High. I still had the scar. I looked at my arm and could feel the dull ache, which was strange because there was nothing there to ache. I stared at the picture of Alex and Isabel. Alex had just called me earlier in the week to say Isabel was pregnant. It seemed everyone was moving on and becoming adults and forging real relationships. I sighed and closed my eyes.
“Liz, you and Kyle are over and have been for a while, why don’t you break up with him already?”
“I’m happy with Kyle, Maria. I can be myself around him and not worry about what he’s going to think,”
“You’re relationship is lacking that zing, girlfriend. You said so yourself, so why even put up the act? Just to have a boyfriend? I know you better than that,”
“So, I dump Kyle and do what? Watchalex andIsabel coo over each other, or you and Michael do that thing only you two can do?”
“Uh, no. Maybe date someone new, someone that will give you the zing back. Maybe...Max Evans…I don’t believe you two have lab together and you don’t realize how much he likes you,”
“Lab isn’t the class to be discussing our feelings for each other Maria. You know how serious I am about my science classes,”
“I know…don’t look now, but here comes the man,” she said and smiled.
Headed our way was Max. I could feel the scar on my arm begin to throb.
“Hi Liz, Maria,” he said.
“Hey Max, well I’ve got to run, see you two later,” she managed and practically ran away.
“I was wondering if you understood the homework for last night? I meant to call you but figured I’d just see you today,”
“Oh, ok…we can go to the library and go over it,”
We walked towards the library and I swore I heard Maria snickering behind me.
“I can’t believe your brother actually asked you for advice on how to get Liz to notice him,” Maria said, looking at Isabel Evans in awe.
“Neither can I, but he has liked little Liz Parker for quite awhile now, anytime he sees her with Kyle, well let’s just say it gets to him,”
“Really…hmm, maybe we need to steer Kyle into liking someone new, someone who isn’t Liz Parker,” Maria said with an evil grin.
“Now you’re thinking like me,” said Isabel and they walked away together.
I stared at my bedroom for a sign that I had forgotten something and figured, whatever I didn’t have I could buy in Roswell. Besides my parents had kept my room just as it was and I still had some lingering items there.
“You ready Liz?” said a voice from the kitchen.
“Coming Blaise,” I said grabbing my suitcase.
I walked into the dining room and caught him drinking from the OJ container.
“Blaise…if I’ve told you once, I’ve told you a thousand of times, please use a cup…that is so gross,” I exclaimed with mock anger in my voice.
He walked over to me and planted a wet kiss on my lips.
“We exchange these, so what’s the difference?” he said and raised an eyebrow.
I smiled and looked away.
“You’re right…but suppose I had a guest over and they saw you drinking form the container? Do you think they would be comfortable with that?”
“Liz, this is why I love you…because you are here to set me straight,” he said nuzzling my neck.
“I think we need to go,” I pulled away and reached for my bag.
“Are you sure your parents are ok with me staying at their house?”
“Yeah, I’m a big girl Blaise, they trust my judgement. Plus it’s probably time you met some of my friends from back home,”
Ok then, let’s go!” he said taking my bag from my hand and grabbing his.
In a few hours I would be home, back in Roswell, New Mexico, where strange things had been occurring for what seemed like my whole life. Back to my friends who had never left, back to the life I tried so hard to leave behind.
I'm not sure if I like this beginning, let me know what you all think. If it sounds ok, I'll continue..if not I might have to try again.
