Funny Posting Story

So--I'm reposting one of my stories that got lost in the hacking. I'm cruising along, copy-paste-post, copy-paste-post...you know the drill

.....and when I get up to Chapter 63 out of 78, I receive the following error message:
FORBIDDEN
You don't have permission to access/phpbb/posting.php on this server. Additionally, a 404Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an Error Document to handle the request.
I tried several times and got the same message, so I assumed the board was having problems. I tried for three days with the same results. I rebooted our router. Then I got suspicious.
I tried posting the next chapter. No problem. I tried posting
part of the offending chapter. No problem. Tried all of the chapter again. No dice.
Curious now, I went section by section, narrowing it down to the very last section of the chapter that for some reason got bounced every time. Then I went paragraph by paragraph and narrowed it down to a completely innocuous paragraph that was causing the problem.
By this time, my entire family was hanging over my shoulder, offering me advice. "Did you put bad words in there, Mom?" my youngest wanted to know. (No.) "Do you have some weird character in there that's causing this?" my husband asks. (Well, I have carats for alien telepathic speech, but those were fine in the rest of the chapter.) "Go sentence by sentence," my husband advised.
So we did. We posted the offending paragraph one sentence at a time until we found the offending sentence. Then we posted that sentence one
word at a time until we found the problem. And what was the problem?
Well, it
was a four letter word....but not the one you're thinking.

:D It was the word "kurl", only spelled with a "c". I couldn't spell "kurl" with a "c" because the board wouldn't take it. It would take "kurl", or "url", or "c", but not "c" and "url" together.
So thirty minutes and a good deal of head scratching later, I finally got Chapter 63 posted after changing "curl" to "climb" and went on my merry way. But I thought I'd let everyone know that there's yet another four letter word out there we need to be careful of.
ETA: I notice I can now use the word "curl". *Rushes back to try again*
ETA again: Nope. No "curl" allowed, at least not in Work by Author. "Climb" it is.

(Don't you just love computers?)

we're working on it, there is a fix, i believe, but Angel isn't around for me to check with right now. Substitute waving or wavy or something for the time being

It is a security script the hosting company uses on the servers. It will be fixed shortly...thanks for your patience!

Yep, that was the offending word. Funny thing is, I can post that word in this forum, but not in the other.
It's no big deal. My family and I were all having a ball trying to guess what was causing the post to bounce, and when we narrowed down the paragraph, we were all stumped.

Then we narrowed down the sentences, and then everyone stopped betting because no one wanted to lose.

What forum are you getting the debug error in? What theme are you using? In your profile, do you have the option checked to email you when someone's replied in that topic? If so, uncheck it.

*hugs* I'm with
Ti88, Tracie--don't fret.

A brand new board is bound to come with brand new problems. We love you and your board (wherever it is), and we'll all figure it out. Or in my case, since I'm largely computer illiterate, I'll bake you massive quantities of brownies (or whatever your favorite guilty pleasure is) while
you figure it out.
And thanks for resolving the "curl" problem.

Kathy, I was sooo nodding my head while reading about your posting problem with the word "curl." LOL! I sent numerous PM's back and forth to Tracie and tried for days to post a chapter of
Life In The Stars where it said that Maya pressed the heels of her hands to her temples and allowed her fingers to curl. (I eventually changed "curl" to "close tightly"). But anyway, just to show you how similar our efforts were, here are some of the PM's I sent:
I was posting Life In The Stars in the author archive, and it started coming up with a message that I'm not authorized to view this forum. ??? This after I've already posted all of Altered Time and 17 chapters of Life! I've tried everything I know to do, including logging out and back in, but it still says I'm not authorized. Maybe you can kick the board for me or something. LOL
Here's the message I'm getting when I try to post chapter 18 of Life In The Stars in the author archive. It's a mystery to me.

It's the weirdest thing! I had no trouble posting up till chapter 18 of Life In The Stars, and I've had no trouble so far posting chapters after that, but ch 18 wouldn't post... Finally, I tried posting a paragraph of 18 at a time. That actually worked till I got to the last three paragraphs, then the message came up again every time I tried to insert the last three paragraphs. I finally got the last paragraph to post by eliminating the two right before it. Then, copying a few sentences at a time, I got it down to two lines that wouldn't post... then two words, then one word (crl). I took the u out of crl and it took it. So now I have one letter that won't post. I'm still trying. LOL
LOL! My son suggested that the "url" in curl was being interpreted as a code. guess he was right.
And Roselle, that problem with Debug mode... I had that either here or at Memories one or the other, and the same thing happened. After trying about 6 times and getting that "Failed... Debug Mode" notice every time, I find that all 6 posts posted! Gaah! LOL
On the "curl" matter, it wouldn't take it when I tried to PM Tracie using it either... thus the cryptic message above. Go figure! But we all figured it out! We're a resourceful bunch!

Regarding the curl problem, Curl is a database program and our hosting company has a security script on their servers to prevent people from exploiting this Curl hole. Problem is, it also prevents anyone from using the word 'curl'. So we have to ask the hosting company to take this particular security patch off our server. I'm not sure it's completely necessary anyway, but they like to err on the side of caution.
As for the Debug error, we're having this problem at LOD as well. I think there might have been something in the last update that's causing this. This used to be a problem a few updates back, and apparently it's back. I'm looking into how to fix it. In the meantime, your post will still post even when you get that error, as has been pointed out above.
Thanks for your patience while we try to get this all worked out!

When I finally narrowed it down, my smart-aleck of an 18 year-old called upstairs to my husband, "We figured it out! Mom's trying to post a four letter word, and the board won't take it!" (*Swat!* )
LOL!

: That was hilarious!
