CHAPTER ONE
THE VRCC

Victoria Wexford crossed the vast graveyard with her back straight; her posture was perfect, as it always had been. The graveyard had an eerie mist lurking over it; the gravestones were tall, looming, crumbling with all sorts of weeds growing over the top of them. The church was slightly up on a hill, it was an old building, unused by the ordinary people who passed it without giving it a second glance, the windows were broken and the walls were falling down.
This had been the church that Victoria had attended as a child; she had recommended it as Headquarters for the VRCC. The VRCC was the Vampire Rights and Control Council, vampires lived by their own rules, Victoria was a very wealthy, high-powered member of the VRCC and she was late for the first meeting of the new year, the Samhain meeting; the meeting was the only annual meeting that hadn’t been abandoned as time went on.

A frown formed across Curtis Orleans pale brow and he ran his hands through his short, spiky, black hair, this wasn’t like Victoria, she was never late, what had happened to her? His sense picked up a new vampire presence, Victoria’s he was sure of it, despite the fact he was sitting in a room with about a dozen other vampires he knew that it was Victoria. The arched wooden doors burst open and Victoria walked in, she was unmistakeable, her dark eyes, that were heavily eyelined, flashed around the room, her thick, newly dyed, black hair hung to her elbows. She was wearing the Gothic style of this age, a knee length black dress, a pair of black tights and a pair of boots, which, Victoria had once told Curtis, were called ‘New Rocks’. She was also wearing a deep purple, silk cloak. A hush fell among the vampires and they all looked expectantly at her.
“Evening all.” She said in a strong voice that meant, ‘no one talk about me being late.’ Everyone murmured the same sort of thing as she sat down between Curtis Orleans and John Harrington, John Harrington was the vampire who had made her a vampire. He was the Vampire King, but he went by an ordinary name and looked like an ordinary man.
“What are the issues that have risen this year?” demanded Victoria directing her gaze to John, who rubbed his unshaven chin and looked up.
“A rebel, we have spotted her, one Julia McCausland, goes by the name of Julie. She is creating chaos and the ordinarys are getting suspicious and scared, what with all the deaths and all, you can’t really blame them, since they don’t know what’s happening.” Said John in a low hoarse voice.
“What are we going to do about it?” asked George Patterson, banging his fist on the table impatiently.
“Send someone to get close to her, this girl has become a vampire by her own means, she has fangs and is really a vampire we need to know how she became a vampire before we attempt to control her.” said Curtis wisely. John looked at him and smiled his old smile.
“I think it’s a good plan, but we need a good actor or actress to do that.” John said. All eyes turned to Victoria. “Lets have a vote,” continued John, “All in favour of sending Victoria Wexford raise your right hand now.” all the hands apart from Victoria’s rose into the air. Victoria frowned.
“Give me the details at the end.” She muttered grumpily.
“To the matters at hand in our very community, Stephen Mason has just turned 500! I hope you are all going to go to his birthday party, aren’t you?” smiled John, everyone nodded and Victoria scowled huffily,
“I can’t, you sent me on that stupid mission.” Victoria growled.
“Oh my dear Vikki, I’m so sorry to hear that!” John said acting startled. Victoria looked at him strangely. They talked about matters at hand; the illegal blood bottle passings and then they had to go.
“Victoria!” called John, “Come here so I can tell you the details.”
“Fine!” snapped Victoria storming over to him, “What?”
“Your job is to go into the North, there is a small village called ‘The North’ as you know and there, you will find Julie, she will be there somewhere, your job is to make friends with her and to gain her trust, you must ask her how she became a vampire before you contact us to come and get her. Understand?” asked John.
“Yes.” Muttered Victoria.
“Do you know what I don’t understand?”
“No, what?”
“Why you don’t want to go on this mission.”
“Because I lived there, it was my home for five years until I became a vampire and started travelling with you. I don’t want to see any of those cold, heartless ordinarys that used to reject and misunderstand me so.”
“None of them will be alive now.”
“I suppose.”
“You must go.”
“I know that.”
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” With that Victoria turned on her heel and swept out of the room.

Curtis followed Victoria out of the building calling out to her,
“Victoria! Wait! What’s up?” Victoria stopped abruptly and turned to look at him.
“I’m going to The North. Ok? I have to find Julia McCausland who goes by the name of Julie. Do you think that’s going to be easy?”
“The North? Didn’t you live there for a while?” asked Curtis. Victoria sighed.
“Yes.” She admitted. “Now I have to get rest, I leave in the morning.” And with a swish of her silk, deep purple cloak she vanished into the darkness of the night.

CHAPTER TWO
THE NORTH

It was around seven in the evening when Victoria was finally ready to leave, Shadow-Demon, her horse was saddled and ready to go, with a couple of bags hanging from the saddle. Victoria sighed and mounted her hyper horse, who started trotting sideways and tossing her head, Victoria nudged her heels into Shadow-Demon’s sides and she took off into a canter, she sped up and they galloped up the road, Victoria felt so alive, the wind whipped her hair back from her face, and Shadow-Demon’s tail was gracefully following them. After a few hours they slowed and stopped for a drink. Victoria sat down on a grassy bank beside the river and stared into the dark star scattered sky. She grinned, revealing her two pointy fangs, her surroundings were so beautiful, but suddenly picked up another presence, she stopped smiling, her heart was pounding, this was not good, the person could have seen her fangs. Sitting very still she tried to work out whether the other presence was vampire or not.
“Victoria Wexford?” said a voice.
“Is that her?” said another sounding confused. Victoria recognised the first voice and turned around to check if she was right. She was; standing behind her was Tessa, Victoria’s oldest friend, she grinned again, got up and hugged Tessa. Tessa also grinned,
“Vikki, James, James, Vikki.” Tessa said smiling, her green eye sparkling in the starlight as she introduced Victoria to her boyfriend. James smiled nervously. He was tall, with dark brown hair that fell to half way down his neck he had a slight moustache and he shifted the weight from one foot to another uncomfortably.
“Hello,” said Victoria politely, turning to Tessa and lowering her voice she added, “Is he?”
“Yep, don’t worry, he’s vampire, only just become one, I was appointed his mentor and well, we became more than friends.” Tessa replied easily, “So what brings you to a mile away from The North?”
“Business, I have an assignment for John Harrington.” Shrugged Victoria.
“Hold on, John Harrington? As in the vampire king?” asked James, Victoria nodded, “cool. Tessa, are we going to go for a whiskey or not?”
“We are, coming Vikki?” asked Tessa.
“Can’t, I have to be at The North by day break, are you staying there or what?”
“Nah, were in Carrowdore, I’ll see you around?”
“Yeah. Bye.” Tessa and James disappeared and Victoria mounted again, galloping the last mile to The North.

Wondering around the town she found her abandoned house that John had promised would be there, and she went in, it was a Victorian style house, big and empty. She dumped her bags in. Untacked Shadow-Demon and left her out in the large back garden. Then Victoria went inside, climbed two flights of stair and slumped on her bed.
“This is going to be a long day.” She muttered, turning over and falling asleep.

Curtis lay, wide-awake, on his bed wondering and worrying about Victoria, he loved her, but she took no notice of him. Why? This was so unfair! He loved her. She ignored him, well his feelings. It hurt. Cursing, Curtis got up and checked his emails, artificial light didn’t hurt vampires, only sunlight. Logging in he stared at the screen. Vampires had their own mailing network, vampmail.com. Every vampire had an account and every vampire got a monthly happening email. Curtis’ heart leapt. This is what the screen said:

From - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Subject - - - - - Date
v.wexford@vampmail.com - - Good-bye - - 1st Nov 2005

Clicking on the link he read:

Hello Curtis, by the time you read this I will most likely be in The North, God help me, and you will be worrying and wondering about me. How did she know that? Is what you are thinking right now, Curtis, you are predictable. Look, I love you, and you are a great person but at the moment I have a lot on my mind so please, don’t come after me. Once again, I love you.
Love
Victoria

Curtis smiled and hugged the computer monitor this had to be the best day of his life, wow! Victoria loved him! This was amazing; he needed to go to her. No, he thought firmly, she said ‘Please don’t come after me.’ So I won’t. Turning off the computer Curtis went to bed and fell asleep, feeling happy.

Great start! Very gothic! I loved the description in the opening scene:
I never thought of vampires as having a professional network and all. I always thought of them as basically loners. Shows how much I know! :lol I like the way you portray them! :thumbsup
And talking about organized vampires:
Logging in he stared at the screen. Vampires had their own mailing network, vampmail.com. Every vampire had an account and every vampire got a monthly happening email.
:lol Love it! :thumbsup
And this is a romance, too. Gothic romances are very popular, although I've never read any myself. I can't wait to see what happens in The North.

Thanks for posting your story. I'm confused. Is this a fanfic or an original story. Sorry for my ignorance. If it is an original story and you'd like us to move it to the appropriate forum, just let us know!

In the meantime, keep the chapters coming! :)
