"Holy Shit!" Alex Whitman couldn't believe that he was at a rave, of all places.
The Soap Factory was jammed pack with horny teenagers grinding their bodies together; he had no idea how he was going find Isabel Evans in this crowd. He began to search for the blonde goddess when he spotted one of his best friends, Maria Deluca. He couldn't figure out what was going on with Maria and Liz with all the secrecy; usually they included him in everything in their lives, and now he felt as if the closeness wasn't there. He knew it had something to do with Isabel's brother, Max, but he wasn't sure what. He had a theory that it involved drugs but he just couldn't see Liz involved in that. Maria neither, she was more or less a purist; she didn't even like to take Tylenol. And why the hell was she wearing that gold shimmer halter-top? It left almost nothing to the imagination.
Alex figured that maybe Maria had seen Isabel since they were together the night of the Crash Festival, which was again, weird. Since when did Maria hang with Isabel?
"Maria!" She turned around and smiled at him, her green eyes lighting up at seeing him. Maria missed the closeness between them. He was like a brother, and ever since she was sucked into the alien abyss they hadn't really talked; except when she accused him of taking Liz's diary, which was a big mistake on her part.
"Alex, what are you doing here? You're wearing the silk shirt I bought you. Does this mean you're on a date?" she squealed in delight. "See, I told you it would come in use. Who is the lucky girl?" Maria gushed without taking a breath.
Alex put his hands up motioning for her to stop talking. Her questions were spewing out faster than he could answer them. "Slow down and let me answer a question." He looked around, "First though, have you seen Isabel?"
Maria looked at him quizzically, "Isabel? Isabel Evans? No, why?"
"Alex!" They both turned and saw Isabel Evans walking towards them aiming a sexy grin at Alex, which baffled Maria.
"Isabel" Alex's voice was filled with excitement. Maria thought he was going to go into shock or something from the look on his face. She looked beyond Isabel and spotted Michael sitting coolly in the corner, like he was just there letting his presence be known.
"Well, I got to go. I see someone I need to have a little chat with. You two have fun." She hugged Alex, but before walking off went straight up to Isabel with a stern look on her face. "If you hurt him, so help me God, I'll be your worst nightmare," she whispered so only Isabel could hear.
Isabel was shocked that this girl would threaten her knowing who she was. "Remember who can change your dreams into nightmares, Maria."
Maria's mouth dropped, but she said nothing and walked quickly off towards Michael who was staring intently at the scene that was being unfolded. She walked up to Alex with a sexy grin and unbuttoned his top button slowly: "You look great."
"I do? Of course I do, " Alex stated with more self-confidence. He was still not quite sure of what to make of the scene between Isabel and Maria. He couldn't help but notice how sexy Isabel looked in the deep red, spaghetti-strapped, tight-fitting dress. "So do you, by the way. I love the way you look in red," Alex said eyeing her.
"I know you do," Isabel said smugly as she watched Maria walk over to Michael. She noticed that they went off somewhere together. 'How interesting...'she thought to herself.
Isabel turned to look at the confused expression on Alex's face and decided that in order to see if he's as trusting as she thought he was, they would need to talk in private. She grabbed his wrist and started to drag him away. "Come on, let's go somewhere to talk."
"Okay," he replied, puzzled by Isabel's actions. They found a private area underneath some bleachers where the music wasn't so loud.
"You know, you're really a good guy Alex," she stated with sincerity as she sat down on a pile of wood planks.
"Oh, thank you Isabel. Thank you," he replied with gratitude. He was finally with the woman of his dreams, alone, and she wasn't calling him a dork.
"No, really. I mean, most guys are just disgusting animals." The blonde alien's nose scrunched up in disgust. "Their sole purpose in life is to try and maul me." She couldn't help but smile at how Alex treated her dream self. No guy had ever looked so deeply into her soul as he did.
"I am. I mean, I am!" he exclaimed excitedly. "I just don't see you that way; not that I wouldn't want to" His voice deepened with a softness that could barely be heard.
"I think I know how you feel," Isabel said softly.
"You do?" He was definitely confused here. Why would Isabel Evans, of all people, know how he felt?
"Yeah, which is why I think I know that I can trust you." She was more than nervous. She was petrified, but she couldn't let him see her fear.
"Trust me?" This conversation was becoming more and more confusing.
"Yeah, we all can. Liz, Max, all of us." she added with reassurance.
"So that's what this was about!" He shook his head in disbelief. 'How could I be so stupid?' he screamed to himself. "You just wanted to find out what I said to Valenti."
He seems to detach, and Isabel had never seen this side of Alex Whitman. Usually he was so outgoing and had never gotten angry. "Alex?" she called his name softly, trying to calm him down.
He stood up and looked at her with disappointment in his eyes. "Don't Alex me! How could I have been such a fool to think that you were interested in me?" He shook his head and proceeded to walk out.
Isabel wasn't sure what stunned her more, the fact that Alex walked out or that she wanted to tell him the truth now more than ever. Her mind kept flashing back to the dream. No one had ever looked at her like that or said those things to her. Even though it was just a dream, she felt that was how he saw her. She didn't want to lose the one person who saw the real her.
Without any more hesitation, Isabel quickly got up and followed Alex. He already had a lead on her and she was afraid of losing him in the crowd. Once she hit the main area, the music pulsated through her body. The beat was nearly intoxicating. Being an alien, her senses have always been a notch higher than humans. It's one of the reasons she was afraid to try alcohol, not to mention drugs. None of them knew the effects of strong substances because they never got sick, so there was never the need for anything else.
Even in the harsh light of the club she was able to spot Alex heading toward the exit. It was times like these she wished one of her alien powers were to freeze time like on Charmed. She managed to make it to him just as he was outside the door.
"Alex wait!" she pleaded.
He stopped dead in his tracks and turned his body around slowly, his head and top half whipped around first. If he wasn't so pissed he would find this an amusing turn of events. Normally, it was the guy who chased after Isabel Evans, not vice versa.
"So what, you decided to humiliate me in public now?"
"No Alex, you don't understand. This has nothing to do with my brother. Well, not my brother completely, but it's not what you think."
"So what is it?"
Just as Isabel was about to say something she spotted flashing lights and heard the sirens. "Oh no, I need to find Max and Michael before it's too late." She was terrified of Sheriff Valenti and feared that if he learned who she, Max and Michael were that he'd turn them over to the F.B.I.
Alex sobered at her panicked look and glanced to see some fire trucks and police cars pull up. He then faced her and saw her expression of complete terror. She was really afraid of the police, but why? He couldn't believe he was going to do this, but he couldn't help but feel the need to protect her. "l'll help."
She gave him a grateful smile and breathed a sigh of relief. "I promise to explain everything as soon as we are out of here."
Inside, the factory had turned to total confusion in seconds. Hearing the police, kids began to scatter in every direction. Alex was still holding Isabel's hand as he pulled her through the crowd of kids attempting to exit the building.
"Look over there, there's Michael and Maria!" Alex yelled over the crowd.
Isabel looked over in Michael's direction and saw the look of horror on his face. Sending him a look to try and not worry him, she scanned the crowd for Max. At this point, most of the kids were already out of the building; the sheriff and his deputies were closing everything off. Smoke was starting to fill the large warehouse and Alex was beginning to get worried. He pulled on Isabel's hand to get her to leave.
"Come on, Izzy! I think everyone is out. Let's go," he said urgently.
Just as she was about to answer, a kid walked by handing both her and Alex a full bottle of alcohol each. Dropping hands so they could grasp the items, they looked down in shock.
"Your coming with me," said a deep voice.
Alex and Isabel both looked up in horror to see Sheriff Valenti.
