A/N: Bad? Good?
It was snowing outside, just like it had last night. But last night was different, last night she had a drinking contest with herself. How many drinks can a person take before she got drunk. She had made a bet with herself and she had lost. She could not handle 10 glasses of champagne. Not even after a huge dinner, where she probably had gained ten pounds, if not more.
She listened to him breath, it was still blurry. The clothes that they had tossed around the room, the kisses and the touching. It all seemed unreal, but he was still next to her, sleeping, sometimes making small snoring noises. She picked up a t-shirt from the bed and sat up while she took it on, a smile curved around her lips when she looked at the text. “London Calling”. He always surprised her, there was always something new. She walked over to the window because the snow blew in and the stack of magazines got wet.
“Leave it open,” a voice said and she turned around and frowned.
“But your things are getting wet;” she said. He sat up in his bed and smiled. She in his t-shirt was perfect.
“I don’t care,” he said. She tilted her head to the left, to see if he was joking. When he still looked at her the same way, she walked over to the bed and sat next to her. He placed a kiss on her cheek before he laid down again. She laid down next to him, and both of them stared up at the ceiling. She noticed that he should repaint it, since the painting had started to fall off. But she didn’t say anything, just looked up and listened to him breathing. Nothing mattered, just his breath, the snow falling down and the Christmas lights the neighbours had forgotten to take down.
He turned over to her and rested his head on his left arm, he looked at her brown hair and how her eyes were concentrating on one spot. At that moment divorces, trips to New York and everything else that had separated them was a shadow. Something that didn’t matter. She looked away from the ceiling and over to him, she smiled, his blue eyes met hers and she kissed him. Just for a second before they separated.
”Your things are still getting wet,” she told him.
“Maybe, but I like the smell,” he said and his finger went over her face. Like he was trying to make a photograph with his fingers so he could remember how perfect she looked at that moment. Her eyes still sleepy, hair a mess and her lips smiling.
“Snow doesn’t smell,” she said amused and sat up in the bed. He shook his head, and pretend to be disappointed in her. But he didn’t manage.
“It does,” he argued. She let out a small laugh and ruffled his hair, that was already messy.
They fell into a comfortable silence. She would have stayed there for ever if she could. The wind played in the curtains; she still didn’t think he was a person that cared about small details like curtains. She thought he would have covered the windows with some sheets, and not white curtains decorated with small blue flowers.
Her eyes looked at the walls that were covered with posters and pictures. Some of the people she knew and others she hadn’t seen. She couldn’t believe how much he had changed since last time she had seen him. She could barely remember the person he was then, so maybe he was still the same. Maybe she had changed. Even though she had made a promise to herself to not let music change her.
“Can you give me my shirt,” he said and interrupted her thoughts; she nodded her head and walked across the cold floor. She tossed him the shirt and walked over to the window again. She removed the magazines and opened the window more.
“Snow doesn’t smell,” she said once more. He looked at her amused as she went through his CD collection. He walked over to her and kissed her on the neck. She turned over to him and held out a CD. He grabbed it and walked over to the stereo, turned it on, and the dark room was filled with Maroon 5. She sat down on his bed and he sat down next to her.
None of them said a word, both tried to loose their self in the music. In a few hours they would be back in reality, a place where they were ex-husband and ex-wife. Two people that weren’t meant to be together. Maybe they were meant to be, but that was a long time ago. She rested her head on his shoulder and he put an arm around her. She hummed to the music, and for a few seconds he could hear her sing “Elsewhere” in Karen’s café.
She smiled as a new song started to play and fill the room.
“I love this song,” she mumbled happily. He kissed her on the top of her head as he listened to Adam Levine. He liked this song too.
They laid back on the bed again, stared up at the ceiling and listened to “Sunday Morning.”
“Can I put it on repeat,” she asked when the song was over. He nodded his head and she walked across the cold floor, once more. He looked at her walk away, and for the first time that morning he felt sad. Since in an hour she had to go back to her life, and he had to go back to his. But right now, she was all that mattered, and maybe the smell of the snow.
