Book Review: Parallel Attractions

Parallel Attractions is going to suck you right in!! If you’ve ever stayed up way too late because you told yourself, “Just one more chapter,” then you already know the danger of Deidre Knight’s Parallel Attractions. Spoiler alert: the perfect time to start reading it is not right before bed, unless you enjoy staggering into work the next morning looking like you’ve been personally victimized by time travel. And honestly? It’s worth every yawn.

When I first put the book down, my immediate thought was simple: this year’s must-read book has arrived. I remember jotting down my first reaction—half dazed, half delirious from lack of sleep—something along the lines of: “The perfect time to read Parallel Attractions is NOT right before bed because you kind of forget to sleep. Deidre Knight has crafted an incredible universe for her readers, and once you step into it, you are reluctant to leave. The plot is compelling, the characters are so well written that they feel ‘alive.’ Ms. Knight has taken a stellar plot and characters and woven them together with incredible skill to create a book you never want to end.”

parallel attractionsEven after giving myself a few days to recover from the reading binge, that first impression still stands. Parallel Attractions isn’t just good—it’s dangerously addictive. Knight doesn’t simply tell a story; she creates an entire playground of romance, sci-fi, and mind-bending “what ifs” where every chapter lures you deeper. It’s the kind of book that makes you wonder why more stories don’t mix sizzling romance with wormholes, timelines, and impossible choices.

Characters Who Feel Real (Maybe Too Real)

The characters in Parallel Attractions are so well written they practically climb out of the pages. You know that moment when you finish a book and half expect the hero to text you later, just to check in? That’s exactly how this feels. They’re witty, flawed, passionate, and complex—alive in the way the best fictional characters always are. Whether they’re grappling with heartbreak, destiny, or the consequences of time itself, you’re invested. You cheer for them, you groan when they make questionable decisions, and you occasionally want to yell, “Don’t do that!” like you’re watching a horror movie.

A Plot That Twists, Turns, and Time-Jumps

The plot of Parallel Attractions deserves a standing ovation. Time-travel stories can sometimes collapse under their own rules, but Knight handles the mechanics with finesse. The narrative moves at just the right pace—fast enough to keep you hooked, but never so rushed that you’re lost. Every time you think you’ve figured things out, Knight tosses in a new twist that forces you to rethink everything. And the best part? The surprises never feel cheap. They’re earned, carefully built, and deeply satisfying.

Romance Meets the Multiverse

At its heart, Parallel Attractions is also a love story, but not the cookie-cutter kind. The relationships are layered with longing, destiny, and the delicious tension of “will they, won’t they”—multiplied by the complications of parallel universes. It’s as if Knight asked, “What’s the most dramatic way two people can fall in love?” and then answered, “Oh, I know: let’s throw in quantum physics.” The result is romance with real stakes, where every choice matters and every kiss could change everything.

Funny, Clever, and Utterly Addictive

What sets this book apart is its tone. Sure, it’s got big emotions and dramatic stakes, but it also knows how to wink at the reader. There are moments of sharp humor and clever dialogue that make you laugh even as your heart races. Reading Parallel Attractions feels like hanging out with the funniest, most charming storyteller you know—the kind who can keep you up all night with “just one more story.”

The Bottom Line

Yes, it’s the kind of book you can’t put down, the kind that makes the characters feel alive, and the kind you never want to end. But it’s also more: it’s a reminder of why we read in the first place. To be swept away. To laugh. To cry. To believe, for a few hundred pages, that love and destiny and second chances can stretch across time itself.

The bottom line? Deidre Knight has written a book that will steal your sleep, hijack your free time, and leave you grinning like a fool when you finally close the cover. Parallel Attractions is adventurous, romantic, thought-provoking, and above all, fun. Just maybe don’t start it at 11 p.m.—unless you’re prepared to lose track of time in more ways than one.

Verdict: Parallel Attractions is witty, warm, and wildly addictive—a sparkling blend of romance and time-bending intrigue that will leave you smiling, swooning, and slightly sleep-deprived.
