Focus on the Positive

What you think creates your life. All you have to do is ask yourself what you are willing to accept into your life… ~ Ghalil

I like this quote a lot, but I have a problem with it as well.  If you take it literally, it means you can create and accept bad things in your life.  I don’t think ANYBODY willingly accepts bad things in their lives.  You don’t, for example say “Hey great, I think I’ll lose my job today!  WOO HOO!”  There are things that happen that come from outside sources that impact our lives.  What I do think, though is that our thoughts directly correlate to how long these things STAY in our lives.

Suppose for instance, you do lose your job, due to downsizing, the company relocating, or any other reason.  These are outside influences that you can’t control.  How you deal with the job loss IS in your control.  Do you feel sorry for yourself, and tell yourself you’re never going to get a job, or do you focus on the fact that you are talented, have valuable skills and will be an asset to any company?  The more you focus on the good and the positive, the better your chances are of landing a new, and probably better job.

Don’t focus on those negative thoughts that you have no control over.  Instead, focus on good things.  Remember how well you did something, or how good you are at playing the guitar, cooking or sewing.  Focus on the positives rather than the negatives and you will drive those negatives out of your life that much quicker.
