Changing your Attitude

Share on:

You cannot tailor-make the situations in life but you can tailor-make the attitudes to fit those situations. Zig Ziglar

This is quite possibly one of my favorite quotes.  I frequently deal with people who react to situations inappropriately because “so and so did this.”  They are very good at blaming their reactions on the actions of others.  I spent a lot, and I mean a LOT of time trying to get them to understand that you can’t change the way people act but you can certainly change the way you REact. Sadly, they don’t get it.  At first I thought it was because of tye are self absorbed high school students, but lately I’ve spent a lot of time listening to other people talk, and I’ve come to realize that plenty of people – adult people – do the same thing.  Everything is always the fault of everybody else.

Don’t waste your time reacting to others and blaming others.  Take stock of the situation, evaluate it and tailor your reactions to those situations in a way that will benefit you.  It’s kind of like when your mom or dad would say count to 10 before you speak.  Take a minute and evaluate what is going on and THEN act.
