Fix your eyes forward on what you can do, not back on what you cannot change.~ Tom Clancy
We’ve talked about this before, and because of that, I was hesitant to use this quote, but then I realized something. If I keep finding quotes by different people about looking forward and not back, it must be important. I realized just how
important it was when I was driving home yesterday. Out of nowhere, a conversation I had with a woman flashed into my mind. This conversation was well over 17 years ago, in the spring while we were waiting to take our MAT’s for graduate school. I made a comment about a housing development that was located right next to the highway and wondered why anybody would choose to live so close to a major highway and that I would never want to do that. She then replied that that was exactly where she lived and they received a discount on their property because it abutted the highway. Really it was nothing big, but in that flash yesterday, I recalled the conversation and was flooded with a sense of embarrassment. Why? What is the point? I know this woman won’t remember the conversation, and even if she did, I wasn’t being malicious in my comment. I wasted time reliving the conversation and mentally chastising myself for making such a stupid comment – again something that happened 17 years ago. What good is going to come of that? NOTHING, that’s what.
So don’t get bogged down in what happened. Learn from it and move on, and keep your eyes on the prize that is the future.
