Ability, Motivation and Attidue are Key

Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.~ Lou Holtz

This is a fantastic quote – I may even go so far as to say that I LOVE this quote. I’m sad, however because I am totally lacking in the motivation portion of this quote today.  Why?  Because I have a cold.  This is a temporary setback in motivation.  I’ll get over it.  I wonder though, how do we reach the people who have these great gifts and wonderful skills and are completely lacking in motivation?

How do we get people to see that they have these amazing talents and that all they need to to is take that first step?  It’s a mystery, that’s for sure.  I’ve seen many very talented people do nothing with the gifts they’ve been given.  Worse though are those who use their talents but don’t seem to care about how they do it and why.

I think attitude is the most important attribute because even if you have the skills and the motivation without the right attitude, you’re not going to accomplish anything.  And even if your skill set is lacking a bit, as long as you are motivated and have positive attitude, you can accomplish great things.
