Make Your Own Happiness

I love listening to people saying things like “so and so is making me so unhappy.”  I have this incredible news flash for them.  People cannot make you happy, nor can they make you unhappy.  Your happiness and/or unhappiness comes directly from you.  Don’t get me wrong, the actions and behaviors of other people do impact your feelings, but those feelings are yours, they come from you.  You make the choice to be unhappy because of what they did.  I know it sounds wrong.  If somebody lets you down, you’re unhappy.  If somebody does something nice for you, you’re happy.  You fall in love, buy a house, get a new car, you’re happy.  But guess what, people fall out of love, you move, and cars eventually fall apart.  You can’t depend on people or things to make you happy.  You need to reach down deep inside of yourself and figure out what makes you happy.  You can be happy for a job well done, or happy that you’ve found someone with whom to share your life.  But you are not placing your happiness on the other person, it’s on you.  Look inside and figure out where your true happiness comes from!
