Happiness is not a station you arrive at, but a manner of traveling. – Martha Lee Runbeck
Most people, myself included, are always saying things like “I’ll be happy when…” and just fill in the blank. I’ll be happy when I lose 50 pounds, or I’ll be happy when I own that car, or I’ll be happy when I have this much money. Guess what – having things, making money etc…those things don’t make you happy. Or if they do, the happiness is fleeting and you start looking for something else to make you happy. The happiness should be in what you are doing to GET those things. For example, I am working to become healthier and to lose weight. Sure I’ll be happy when I reach my goal weight, but my true happiness is coming from the journey. I am eating healthier, and exercising (sort of). I happy about the changes I am making. As I said, I will be happy when I get down to that magic number on the scale, but I’m also happy now. Stop looking for happiness at the end of your rainbow, and just find the happiness in the rainbow itself.
