Be Yourself

Share on:

Be true to yourself and go with your instincts – don’t be somebody you’re not just to fit in. – Rachel Stevens

Our local cable access channel shows the current high school graduation ceremony several times during the summer and I caught a bit of it today and I was astounded.  Now granted, I didn’t know any of the seniors graduating, but it astounded me to see that 99% of the girls all looked the same.  They all had long straight hair with no bangs – almost every single one of them.  There was a sprinkling of short hair and a couple of girls with curls, but most of them rocked the oh so popular long straight hair.  It didn’t matter how it looked on them, or if their faces suited that style, what mattered was they looked like everybody else.  I get wanting to fit in, but when you allow it to crush your individuality, it’s wrong.  Be who you are, celebrate the amazing person that is you.  You don’t have to look like everybody else, or act like everybody else – just be you.  There is no greater gift you can give the world.
