Keep a grateful journal. Every night, list five things you are grateful for. – Oprah Winfrey
My friend Luke wrote an amazing guest post for me this weekend talking about gratitude. If you haven’t read it yet, I suggest you check it out, he’s a
gifted author, and it will really make you think. You can read it here if you’d like. It got me thinking, and then when this quote popped up, it got me thinking even more. Yesterday, I wrote about affirmations and how you have to believe down to the very core of your soul to bring your affirmations to life. Believing is hard, because you’re usually trying to attract things your missing in your life, but one of the things you can do is be grateful for what you do have. Being grateful is an incredibly powerful tool that you have in your arsenal. Use it. Use it all the time. Be grateful every single second of every single day. You may be trying to attract more money in your life…who isn’t, right? Well start by being grateful for the money that you do have. Even if you just found a penny on the ground, grab it and be grateful because you are one more cent closer to attracting the amount you want. Oprah suggested making a list of five things you are grateful for at night. While that sounds a bit like homework, it’s probably the best homework you can have. Even if you don’t write it down, you can take a minute and mentally review your day and think about all the good things that happened and be grateful. If I can be so bold, I might even suggest you take the less than stellar things that happened in your day and try and turn them around and find a way to be grateful. I’m sitting here right now, and my knees are killing me. What is there to be grateful about that? Lots actually. They’re sore because I was doing a lot of bending and climbing in school today getting things set up for a new school year. So yeah, my knees hurt, but I am so grateful I had time today to go into school and get some stuff done. I didn’t get everything done that I wanted to – I didn’t get a quarter of the things done that I wanted to , but instead of being all upset about that, I’m grateful for what I did accomplish and for getting rid of the stuff I’ve been holding on to that I really don’t need. And I’ll be honest, every time I do something like that, look for the good in a negative, or express gratitude for what I do have, I feel 100% better about me and about my life. So try it. Why not take a minute or two at night to think about what you are grateful for. I bet you’ll find that you’ll have more and more things to be grateful for every day.
