A ship in port is safe, but that’s not what ships are built for. Sail out to sea and do new things. – Grace Hopper
Take a chance. Such a short, tiny sentence but enormous implications, and a lot of fear. Imagine the earliest ship builders. They built these vessels to sail the seas, but with every trip, they took their lives into their hands. Where would we be if those intrepid adventures didn’t take a chance?
Every new venture in our lives is an opportunity to take a chance. Every choice we make is a chance. Something as simplistic as driving a different way to work could
be a way to take a chance. Who knows what you’ll find if you turn left instead of turning right? It may be something absolutely amazing. But you’ll never know, unless you take a chance.
The thing about chances is that they are scary. Things could go so great, or they could go horribly wrong. But you’re never going to know unless you try. Who knows, taking that left turn on your walk instead of the right could cause you to bump into the man of your dreams. Or you may find a new store that has just the suit you’re looking for.
You can choose to do the same thing, day in and day out. Never trying anything new and never taking chances, but what kind of life is that. Take a chance, it doesn’t have to be anything big. Order something different when you go out to eat. Or try a new hair style. What’s the worst that is going to happen. You don’t like the food, or you don’t like the hair cut. Guess what? You can order something new, and hair grows back. I, personally, am a food coward. I hate trying new things. But while I was away on a work trip, we went to a Caribbean/Hispanic restaurant. I decided to be bold and daring and try something I’d never tried before (with a side order of french fries, just in case). When my meal arrived, I wanted almost died laughing. It was deep friend chunks of pork. Not the best, but not the worst, but I took a chance and tried something new. Take a chance. Don’t just exist, live!
