Winners compare their achievements with their goals, while losers compare their achievements with those of other people. ~ Nido Qubein
Well this quote is a bit harsh, I don’t think anybody is a loser for comparing themselves to others. I think comparing your successes to others is
foolish, but that doesn’t make someone a loser. But today, I want to talk about goals, and meeting your goals. I spent a lot of time today writing IEP goals, and honestly, I’m just about goaled out. But all those goals I wrote today (and will re-write tomorrow) got me thinking about meeting goals.
The goals I write for IEP’s are incredibly specific. By this date, given this support, that kid will do this with 75% accuracy in 8 out of 10 trials as measured by this think during this amount of time. Specificity is good, and your goals should be specific, but don’t get too caught up in the goal that you have no chance of meeting it.
It starts with a dream. That dream is an idea, a nexus, a starting point. The goal is the road map that lead you toward your achievement. While you may want a real road map to be very specific, the road map of your goal needs to be a little more flexible. Detours happen, there are bumps in the road, and that’s okay. Keep following your road map, keep working and soon you’ll be meeting your goal. It’s on your time and your plan, and not anybody else.
