To live is to choose. But to choose well, you must know who you are and what you stand for, where you want to go and why you want to get there. – Kofi Annan
I was just talking with a student a few minutes ago, trying to get him to complete his work. He just wanted to turn it in as is, because “this one grade
isn’t going to make a difference.” My response to him was make your choice because what you do now sets the standard for the rest of your life.
It’s true, we’re faced with choices every single second of every single day. And as mom used to tell you, “Make good choices.” The question is, how? How do we know what choices are the right choices to make. As the quote tells us, you have to know who you are. That’s the most important thing. As I told my student, think about who you are and who you want to be. Do you want to be someone who does “enough” or do you want to be someone who puts for the effort to get the job done? Make your choice, dude!
The same goes for all of us. It’s important to know who you are and what you stand for. You need to be informed to make any choice in life. If the choice pertains specifically to you, you’ll need to have a firm grasp on your core beliefs before you can make any choice. So when you’re faced with a decision, think about who you are, what you believe and where you want to be in the future and make your choice.
