Can I Control It?

Don’t worry about what you can’t control and you may liberate yourself.

I am a master worrier.  I used to be a champion master worrier, but I’m getting better at not worrying.  How?  By saying to myself, “Can I control it?”  There are two answers to that question.  Yes, and No.  If the answer is yes, I continue with my worrying until I find a solution.  If the answer is no, then I work very hard to let it go.

can i control it?Don’t get me wrong. After I say no, I usually follow it up with a but…and I try and figure out ways that I can control it.  Like today, I’m taking a class over the summer, and we have to use this particular software that came with our book.  Well not really a book, it’s a bunch of pages that we have to put in a binder, but that’s another story.  Well the software isn’t working.  Several people have commented on it in the discussion forum, and the professor has suggested we put in help desk tickets.  I have to no avail, and today when I TRIED to use the software for an assignment, it didn’t work. I exited out and noticed that my grade went from an A- to a C-.  Am I happy?  No.  Can I control it?  No.  I started really stressing over my grade, but the software working is out of my control.  It’s documented that it’s not working, so I’m not going to stress.

When life starts stressing you out and you’re worrying about this and that, stop and take a breath.  Ask yourself “Can I control it?” If the answer is no, then do your very best to let go of the worry.  There is no point at all in worrying over things that are out of your control.
