Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it. – GREG ANDERSON
There are times when this is true, but there are days, when the activity, or the journey feels like absolute drudgery. Today is one of those days. Maybe it’s because we just had a long Thanksgiving break, or maybe it’s because there are more holidays coming, but right now, going to work and getting my job done seem like insurmountable tasks.
How do you cope when faced with obstacles like that? Sometimes, like today, I just push through. It’s another case of fake it to make it. I don’t want to be at work, my students don’t want to be here either. The only difference is they get to act up and be difficult. I don’t get to do that. Instead, I’m plastering a smile on my face, laughing and acting like I’m having a great time and that there is no other place I want to be. I’m looking for good things in my day. A student with a smile on their face, or a co-worker that I’m happy to see. Just little things that could be deemed insignificant if I let them. But they’re not. They are all little things that I’m focusing on to help me fake it to make it. Fake a good mood until I’m in a good mood. And you know what? The mood is improving with each passing second.
