Being True

Share on:

Be true to your work, your word, and your friend. – John Boyle O’Reilly

When I first read this quote, my initial thought was why?  Why do I care about being true to my work, my word and my friends.  Isn’t it more important that I am true to myself?  After all, wasn’t that exactly what I blogged about yesterday?  Well, yes and no.  I will NEVER say you shouldn’t be true to yourself but you can’t do it at the expense of others, but at the same time, you can’t let the well being of others come at the expense of yourself.  It’s called honesty.  First you have to be incredibly honest with yourself.  Is what you’re doing truly in your own best interest? If you can with 100% certainty say that what you are doing is for you and is allowing you to remain true to you, then do it.  Because, let’s be honest here….if you can say that with 100% certainty that what you’re doing is allowing you to remain true to you, then I can promise it’s also allowing you to be true to your work, your word and your friends
