Be Better Than Yourself

Share on:

There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self. – Ernest Hemingway

I don’t know about you, but I spend a lot of time looking around at other people and comparing myself to them.  I don’t know what’s worse, when I don’t measure up  in my own mind, or when I think I’m better.  Neither thing is good.  It’s never good to think you’re better than anybody else.  I hate when I get that way, and I really try to quash that feeling right away.  It’s egotistical, and just wrong.  But it’s equally as wrong to look at other people and think that they are superior to you.  You don’t have to be better than anybody else.  When it comes right down to it, the only person you need to be better than, or superior to is the person you were yesterday.  It’s actually kind of a freeing way to live.  Every day, try and do better and be better than you were yesterday.  And you know what, if you’re not, that’s okay, you get to just try again.  I think if everybody did more of that, the world would be a much happier place.
