Hope this is ok I do this. I'm always looking for something to read I can take with me. You know bus, plane, train, automobile; heck I even read in the shower and while walking down the street. So I figure with there being some student memembers here and we all know how much they give you guys to read; we might find something new. And even if you aren't a student I'm pretty sure you have some things we could read also. :lol:

I'll even start. Just finished 2 books...well 3 if you count the one I read last week with the 2 I read this weekend.

Nora Roberts' Black Rose - part 2 in her Garden Trilogy
i enjoyed it. it was fun. quick. lite reading. and it had a little bit of everything. mystery, comedy, romance.

Elizabeth Lowell - The Color of Death
read that one today. very good read. a little more involved. you've fbi, gem thieves, murder, coruption, and romance.

Lisa Jackson - Final Scream
its a doozy. 500+ pages. past meeting your present. a bit twisted. more murder, a lot of mayhem, you do have realationships, but i wouldn't call it romance. a bit darker then the book above this.

If you like Nora Roberts, I can heartily recommend her Key Trilogy - Key of Light, Key of Knowledge and Key of Valor...they are AWESOME

tracie a coworker gave them to me as a christmas present...i read them like 5 times. i wander if she's going to do a trilogy on the children of the glass. it would be very intersting...almost like a crossover.

i don't know..mum is a big Nora Roberts fan, and she kept those, knowing i'd love them

Quick reads

I tend to like a lot of different types of books: Sci-fi/fantasy, epic stories, urban fantasy, the occassional tear-jerking fiction... but for beach reads, there's nothing like quick and funny. Janet Evanovich's romance/mayhem/mystery books about Stephanie Plum definitely fit the bill! There's something there for everyone, and for those speedy readers out there...there are 11 books in the series! The first one is called "One for the Money." For light fantasy, I recommend the Xanth series by Piers Anthony. This is deep fantasy: another realm (looking very much like Florida) set in a semi-medieval culture, with magic. These books are absolutely hysterical, and again, there are a ton of them. I have, in fact, lost count. But there are at least 10. The first one is "A Spell for Chameleon."

The Stephanie Plum books are great! I recommend those also.

Here are some other good reads:

The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire (Son of a Witch is being released next month! I'm so excited! And he's got other good stuff out, too...I love Wicked the best, though).
The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd (her book, The Mermaid Chair, is also good)
Watermelon by Marian Keyes (she's got other good stuff out, too)
My Sister's Keeper by Joci Picoult
A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray (the sequel just came out last week, and Barnes & Noble is sending it to me Monday!)

Howdy all~

I am a huge Nora Roberts fan too. I also love the "In Death" series by her alter-ego JD Robb. Roarke... that's all I have to say!

Beyond Nora, I like Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter Series. Also, you like your books with a twist of the supernatural... try Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series. The first book is called Bitten. Also, Kelley has a kick butt website at ... http://www.kelleyarmstrong.com Check it out if you have time.

Another good author is Tess Gerritsen. She writes medical/suspence/thriller books. The Jane Rizzoli/Maura Isles series is particullarly good. The first book is called the Surgeon.

I have so got to branch out in my reading...I mostly read trashy romances that have no substance at all :lol you are like the third person to recommend the Dark Hunter stuf...I'll have to check it out

Oh yeah, Majik, these books are right up your alley. The DH leading men are just... well, drool worthy I guess is the best way to put it. The first book in the series is called "Fanatasy Lover" and is Julian's story (he is one of my personal favs).

I got Son of a Witch from Barnes & Noble a couple days ago!! Anyone else a fan of Gregory Maguire? This is the sequel to Wicked.

Right now I am anxiously awaiting the November 1st release of Lynsay Sands latest book in her Argeneau series. "A Quick Bite". They are paranormal romance novels based on a family of vampires that are descendants of Atlantians. The first three were very entertaining reads and I'm sure this next one won't disappoint.

They are really good, IMHO. The other books in the series are 'Love Bites', 'Single White Vampire' and 'Tall, Dark & Hungry'

The author has a marvelous sense of humor and she infuses her characters with it.

tessalynne - I read up on the books at the Barnes & Noble website. I think I'll check them out next time I'm in the store. Thanks for the recommendation! They sound very entertaining. :read

I love Lindsay's books too and I love Jane Davidsons I hope I'm getting that first name right I can't remember right off hand but the series starts with Dead and Unemployeed. The title itself made me curious.

I haven't heard about anyone of these book *feels stupid*

But books I highly recomend are:

The postoffice by Charles Bukowski
Catcher in the Rye by Sallinger (I guess most people have read this book)
Franny and Zooey by Sallinger
Dharma Bums by Jack Kerouac
trainspotting by Irwine Welsh
