Fanfic terminology

I'm new to the world of fanfiction (even though I've been writing my own Angel one for over a year) and I'd like to understand what I'm in for when I surf a category. I apologise for the newbiness of this question but I've looked on this forum, I've looked on a couple of others, and now my brain hurts.

What do these terms exactly mean in terms of fanfiction?

- Alternate Universe (My fic is set after the end of the series. Is that AU?)

- Slash (no idea what that means)

- Conventional and Unconventional (examples, please)

Any other terms I should be familiar with, please define. Thanks for the vocab lesson.

Hi and to the board...hm...we had a fan fic primer...didn't i bring it when we moved? Damn, I always forget to pack something.

Okay...here we go.

AU is Alternate Universe...in AU, if you wrote Angel, perhaps Angel was never a vampire, never becamea vampire and the story had nothing to do with vampires. I write a lot of roswell, and in roswell AU there may be no aliens at all - make sense?

Slash - slash is male/male or female/female pairings. These stories are allowed here but must be posted in the adult content forum. We don't allow any incest or child molestation stories here.

Conventional Couples - would put Buffy and Angel together or maybe Angel and Cordy Unconventional couples would pair Xander and Buffy or Angel and Willow or Buffy and Oz.

What's POV? (Something to do with subjectivity from what I can read around... ooh, forget it. I've just worked it out. Point Of View. Right? Round of applause for the newbie's sense of deduction? )

Oh and, sorry, I do tend to post pointless posts like this one. Is that frowned upon around here?

Ok I mostly write AU but I write a lot of Max and Liz AU where exactly would I post that? AU or Dreamer?? I want to post my Fics here but I also want to post them right...LOL
