Untitled - My Death By Numbers fan fic

Post by DeathbyNumbersFan »

Title: Untitled
Author: Caty
Genre: Death By Numbers Fic, Angst, Mystery
Rating: TEEN
Summery: Richard Haywood and Justin Pendleton are unlikely friends. Although they both come from comfortable middle class families, their personalities couldn’t be more opposite. Justin is bookish, self-loathing, romantic, living in a world of Rimbaud and Nietzsche, isolated in his brilliance, lonely in a broken home. Richard on the other hand is a smooth, charming, manipulative cynic. He uses his good looks and clever mind to play with people’s emotions just for fun. He’s a natural born psychologist like most sociopaths. Caty Pendleton, Justin’s little sister, is a suicidal, self-loathing 14-year-old. Caty adores Justin and when the cops start sniffing around, saying her brother is a murderer, she is not one bit happy. Can the cops prove her wrong? Or will Caty prove her brothers innocence?

CHAPTER 1

~*Justin’s POV*~

I glanced up at Richard; he was looking down at the absinthe, I was mixing, curiously, we had just stopped reciting our suicidal pact and we were now crouch by the fire in “The Bluff” a rickety house that was hanging off the edge of a cliff, The Bluff was where Richard Haywood and I met, we were never seen together in public, Richard didn’t want to be seen with me, I’m a geek, I’m pretty much a straight A student. Richard frowned.
“What is that?” he asked blowing cigarette smoke out of the corner of his mouth as he said this. I looked up.
“Absinthe,” I replied, “I was made illegal at the turn of the century.”
“Even better,” smiled Richard as I handed him the glass, he took a large drink of it and smiled even broader than before, “I like it.” I remained emotionless and drank my own glass of it. “We need to continue with the plan,” said Richard.
“We will.” I replied staring at the fire, avoiding his eyes.
“When?” asked Richard I heard impatience in his voice,
“Patience, Richard. We will.” I said sipping my absinthe.
“When?” he repeated. I smiled slightly took another drink and turned to him
“Soon.” I said in a voice that seemed to creep Richard out. I sat down, facing him and just watched him.
Richard didn’t talk for a while; he drained his glass, stood up and said.
“I’ve gotta go, bye.” I waved slightly and watched him leave, I listened to the sound of his car racing away and then I put out the fire. I got into my own car and drove home where I was sure my sister, Caty, was waiting.

Sure enough, as I arrived home, Caty was watching for me from her bedroom window. She smiled at the sight of my car and disappeared. I got out of my car and locked it. When I entered the house I saw my mother sitting on the sofa, talking on the phone, as usual,
“Mother I’m home.” I said repeating the line I had said to her when I came home for the past seven years. As usual she waved me away and carried on with her phone conversation. Mother is quiet a plump, business woman, she talks on the phone in all her free and working time and only stops talking on the phone to sleep and, then, she sleep talks.

I trudged upstairs and went into my room where Caty was sitting on my bed, she smiled slightly at me and jumped up,
“Where were you?” she asked softly, staring at me with her pale green eyes.
“The library.” I lied being sure to remain emotionless. Caty frowned, then dismissed the thought that had caused her to frown and hugged me, her navy sweater was pulled down to her finger tips to hide the scars on her wrists, her jeans were new but had a spot of blood on them and her long, straight, brown hair was pulled into a messy ponytail. She buried her face in my chest because she couldn’t reach my shoulder and looked up at me.
“Justin,” she whispered,
“Uh huh?” I breathed.
“You weren’t at the library.” Caty stopped hugging me and left me with that statement. My poor clueless little sister, would I ever tell her the whole truth? But something gave me the idea she knows more than I think she knows. The idea of that sent chills down my spin. Sleep, I thought, there is school tomorrow. I got ready for bed and snuggled into my covers. I saw Caty watching me through the slightly open door. She smiled thinking I was asleep.
“Will you close the door while you’re there?” I asked. Caty started and looked alarmed but closed the door anyway. I smiled and laughed she was so easy to alarm.

~Richards POV~

The next day I woke up for school at about 8am, groaning at my alarm clock I struggled out of bed and hit the alarm clock so it stopped ringing. I wondered sleepily over to the wardrobe and went in search of something to wear. I chose black trousers, a red shirt and a long, black coat. Once I was changed and fully awake I jogged down stairs for breakfast. Mum was sitting at the spotless, white kitchen table, eating half a grapefruit with a sour expression on her face. Mum is a dieting freak; she is obsessed with losing weight. She smiled weakly at me and gestured at the poptarts. I nodded and toasted myself two chocolate ones and left the house with my car keys and book bag. When I was in my car I searched my bag for my packet of cigarettes, I took one and lit it, then I reversed out of the long driveway and drove to school.

At lunch, when I was getting books from my locker I saw Justin’s sister, Caty Pendleton, walking past. She glanced at me and I smiled charmingly at her, Caty scowled, pulled the finger to me, pulled the arms of her sweater further down and hugged her books closer to her.
“Hey Caty,” I said shutting my locker and following the fourteen-year-old.
“#### off, Haywood.” She growled. I laughed,
“How are you doing?”
“Leave me alone!”
“Shall I take that as good or bad?”
“#### off, Haywood.” Caty repeated. I grabbed her arm and turned her around to face me, she tried to pull away but couldn’t.
“What have I done to annoy you? I’ve never talked to you before today.” I asked sweetly.
“You…used…Justin.” She said inbetween struggles.
“No, I didn’t, he tutored me.” I reasoned. Caty glared at me and stopped struggling.
“It’s the same thing.” Caty insisted. If only she new that her brother and I were friends then none of this would be happening.
“We’re friends.” I said smiling. Caty glared even more than she had and slapped me, I let go of her instantly and raised my hand to my, now burning, cheek, I stared at her in horror.
“Don’t you dare say he’s your friend!” she screamed and with that she stalked off. I was aware that everyone around was watching me. Karen, a girl from my class who obviously fancied me, sidled over to me as I watched Caty storm off.
“She doesn’t appreciate you, she isn’t worth it, don’t worry about her, Richard.” Karen said soothingly. I looked at her and smiled. Sure she wasn’t Caty but she’d do fine until Caty came around.

Okay, I can definitely see how they both fall into the categories that you said they were in! Great start! I'm interested to see where this goes!
And by the way, loved this line:
He’s a natural born psychologist like most sociopaths.
:lol
