Title: Behind These Eyes

Author: Vegas312

Disclaimer: I do not own Roswell so please don’t sue me although I wouldn’t mind owning Colin.

Rating: TEEN

Coupling: M/M, CC

Summary: Mid End of the World. What happens after Maria catches Michael with Courtney? Have all the humans gotten tired of their Czechoslovakian friends?

AN: Okay this is my first candy fic so please be gentle with me. Some of the scenes below come from the eppy “EOTW” which I do not own so please don’t sue me. Also the title comes from the song “Behind These Hazel Eyes” by Kelly Clarkson which is used below and copyright infringement is not intended so please don’t sue. This will be no longer than three parts. The second part will be posted on Tuesday and the conclusion on Thursday.

“I’m telling you Alex, he’s up there in that peroxide bimbo’s apartment,” Maria told Alex as she dragged him up the apartment complex’s stairs.

“Whoa! Whoa! Maria, you’re going have to slow down here. First you come bargaining in my room rambling on about some peroxide blonde and Michael’s pants, and now we’re sneaking around some apartment building late at night,” Alex tugged at Maria’s hand to get her to stop. “Now how about you take a breath and tell me what we’re doing here again, and if I need to call 911 to tell them come save Michael from your wrath.”

Ignoring Alex’s joke, she tapped her foot impatiently, “Look we don’t have much time to catch them in the act as I’m sure that bimbo has some kind of radar on my movements so her and Michael won’t get caught. Then again knowing her she probably doesn’t even care that they do.” Muttering to herself about a pair of pliers and jewels, she shook her head and grabbed hold of Alex and continued dragging him up the stairs all the while ignoring his protest.

Finally coming to a stop she glared at the door as if she had x-ray vision and could already see what was going on. “Maria, this is crazy. I mean there’s no way Michael is cheating on you with Courtney. I mean we’re talking about the guy who’s afraid to let anyone close, and who’s paranoid 24 hours that someone is after him. Heck I remember last week he thought his mailman was looking at him funny, and the poor guy can only see so much out of the one good eye he has. I think he said he lost his eye in a fight with a rabid dog, or was it a bird. Hmm, I’m going have to ask him again when he comes by tomorrow with the mail,” Alex tilted his head and briefly wondered what had made the animals attacked.

“Alex! Alex! Focus here. We’re here to kill the bimbo, and possibly hurt Michael,” Maria snapped her fingers in front of Alex to get his attention.

He blinked at her, “Oh right. Alright let’s knock on the door, and we’ll finally have proof that Michael isn’t cheating on you. Now when we don’t find him here, you’re going have to take me out for ice cream because you woke me from this awesome dream I was having where Isabel had dumped Graham, Grant, or whatever his name is.”

“I see after I hurt Michael, we’re going have to have a talk about you and Isabel,” Maria shook her head. “Now let’s get this over with,” she took a deep breath and knocked on the door. A second later the door opened to reveal a scowling Michael, who didn’t look to surprise to see Maria at the door, “Maria, I told you thatt I’m doing some undercover work here.”

She pushed him aside and dragged Alex with her into the apartment, “Undercover huh? What undercover work could you possibly have here?”

Before he could reply a voice called out, “Oh Mickey, where are you? You think you could rub this lotion on my back? It’s kind of hard to do it myself.”

Everyone turned to see Courtney walking in with a towel that barely covered her and she frowned at the sight of Maria and Alex standing in her living room. “What the hell are the two of you doing here?”

Maria ignored her and turned to Michael, “Undercover work huh? Gee do you close your eyes and say it’s for God and your Country when you do it? I can’t believe you!” She started to swing her fist, but stopped and told him, “It’s just not worth it anymore. Goodbye.” With that she ran out the door and Michael started to reach for her, but Alex pushed him back.

“You know what I can’t believe that I was defending you to Maria, and here you are shacked up with the peroxide bimbo,” Alex stared at Courtney in disgust and ignored her “Hey!” Tired of the whole thing he walked out and found Maria sitting in the passenger seat of the car staring out the window. Getting in he started up the car and looked in the rear window to see Michael coming down the stairs. “Do you want to talk to Michael? Because he’s coming down the stairs right now,” he turned to Maria.

She just shook her head and continued to stare out the window. “I just want to go home and pretend that I never heard of the Czechoslovakians.”

He pulled off pretending to not hear Michael’s shout and tried to think of what to say to cheer his friend up. He could ramble about meaningless stuff, but he had a feeling that wasn’t going to cut it today. Pulling up in front of a store he parked the car and quickly got out. A few minutes later he came back with a shopping back and found Maria curled up in the still staring out the window. Giving her a quick glance he started the car back up and kept driving until he came to the Crashdown. “Alright we’re here,” he shut off the car.

Not getting a response he called her name and still not getting any response he reached over and gently turned her around. Startled he found that she was silently crying and probably had been ever since they had left the apartment. Quickly unbuckling his seat belt he got out of the car and grabbed the shopping bag and ran into the Crashdown. Seeing Isabel sitting on a stool he rushed up to her, “Hey Iz. Can you do me a favor and watch this bag for a second?”

“Um sure,” she took the bag and placed it on the stool next to her. “So what’s going on? Do you want to join me for a shake? I mean it’s not like a date or anything but just a shake.”

“No time to talk. Be right back,” he tossed to her over his shoulders as ran back out the door.

She stared at him in shock not sure what was going on as he had pretty much ignored her. Curious as to what was in the bag she peeked in and found three pints of ice cream, whipped cream, cookies, and a small bag that contained a few movies. “What in the world is he up to,” Isabel muttered to herself.

Meanwhile Alex was out in the parking lot trying to get Maria out of the car, but she just kept crying and shaking her head. Knowing that he couldn’t leave his friend out in the parking lot to cry by herself, he opened the door and unbuckled her seatbelt and lifted her out the car. Not paying any of her threats any attention he closed the door and headed swiftly towards the café.

Isabel hearing the bell rang quickly moved away from the bag and looked in confusion as Alex walked in carrying Maria. ‘Okay what the heck is going on around here?’

“Thanks for watching my bag for me. Oh sorry about not being able to have that shake with you. Maybe you can ask Graham to get one with you,” he grabbed the bag off the stool being careful to not drop Maria.

“You mean Grant,” Isabel sputtered.

“Graham crackers, Gremlin, Grant, yeah that guy. Anyway thanks again,” he smiled at her and quickly disappeared.

“Alright I know something is seriously wrong. First Alex ignores me, next he’s carrying Maria in public and she’s letting him, and then he tells me to go out with Grant. What alternative universe did I land in and how do I get out,” she muttered to herself and walked out of the Crashdown determine to get some answers.

Alex took the steps carefully and not seeing anyone he headed towards Liz’s bedroom. “I hope she’s awake,” he knocked on the door and waited for a reply.

“Go Away! I don’t want to talk right now,” a voice yelled from behind the door.

“Liz! Its me Alex, and Maria. Can we come in?”

He heard a noise and a shuffle sound coming towards the door. He patted Maria on the back soothingly, well as soothingly as he could considering that he was carrying her and barely holding onto the big grocery bag. “It’s going to be okay. We’re here at Liz and we’re going to rant away.”

A second later the door opened an inch and sad brown eyes peeked out. “Alex, I really don’t feel like talking right now,” Liz whispered hoarsely. Seeing that he was carrying Maria, she asked, “Why are you carrying Maria? Did she sniff the cedar oil too fast again?”

“Wait a minute. Why do you sound like you lost your voice, and why aren’t you opening the door,” Alex stared at her suspiciously.

“I’m just not feeling well is all, and you still haven’t told me why you’re carrying Maria.”

Nudging the door he ignored her yelp of protest and walked into the room and sat Maria on the rumpled bed. Dropping the grocery bag he turned to look at his other friend and took in her red rimmed eyes and tear splattered face. “Let me guess, this has something to do with a Czechoslovakian right,” he sighed and pushed his fingers through his hair. He opened his arms and she quickly rushed into them. Dragging her to the bed he sat down and picked up Maria and hugged the two girls to him. The two laid their heads on his shoulders and he muttered soothingly to the both of them.

“I guess I’m going to be out early in the morning hurting people. Oy, it’s been one of those nights that’s for sure.” Seeing that the two most important women in his life were still crying made his heart hurt, every instinct was on alert to try to fix it. “Alright ladies we have to remember our motto, ‘we’re independent women who don’t need anyone,” he smiled at them. Not getting the response that he had hoped for he kept on hugging them. The three sat in silence for a few minutes before Maria spoke up, “I hate men. No I take that back I hate Czechoslovakian men. I can’t believe he’s cheating on me with that peroxide bimbo.”

“Max is going to be with Tess from now on,” Liz sniffed. “I’m with you. They’ve ruined us for other decent relationships and they don’t even care.”

“Hey at least he’s cheating on you with someone you know,” Maria muttered. “Must be some kind of Marilyn Monroe gene they have in their DNA.”

“Hey all the Czechoslovakians aren’t bad,” Alex protested. “Just mainly three of them, but that’s not all of them.”

The girls looked at him and said together, “Denial. You’re so in denial.”

Seeing the look they were giving him he held his hands up, “Hey at least she’s cheating on me with a brunette not a blonde.”

The girls groaned and wiped their faces on Alex’s shirt seeing as they didn’t have any tissue on hand and his sleeves were the closet things to them. “Gee, I’m glad that my new shirt could be of help,” he quipped.

“So what are we going to do? Pretend like nothing has happened,” Liz asked and laid her head back on Alex’s shoulder.

Maria stood up and started pacing around. Suddenly she whirled around, “No we’re not going to sit here and make plans about kicking a certain Spaceboy in the place where the sun doesn’t shine. I say we go somewhere where we won’t even think about aliens. Somewhere fun, and where we never been.”

“And where exactly is this utopia,” Alex took the pint of chocolate ice cream from Liz and rumbled around the bag for a spoon.

“Vegas baby! Viva las Vegas,” Maria singed.

Liz and Alex looked at each and turned to Maria, “Vegas?”

“Yes. It’ll be the perfect place to get away from it all,” Maria pleaded. “Are you guys in?”

“Sure. What the heck? What’s the worst that can happen in Vegas,” Alex mumbled around a cookie.

“Liz?”

Liz looked between her two friends and raised her cookie in the air, “Vegas it is.”

This is the first Candy fic I've read in a long time since Ann introduced me to Polar, but I loved it! :) I love how you have Alex as the hero to his best friends, Liz and Maria and Vegas? How cool! :) Can't wait to see which couple will end up in the sack! lol! J/K! :)
