Exquisite
“Hold on!” He’s laughing, dashing around the console, slamming down levers and switches. The TARDIS whirls and dips in time to a tune only the ship hears. She’ll have bruises in the morning, Rose thinks, but it’s worth it. So very worth it.
The walls fade away; around and above them stars and streaks of light explode, blaze and burn into darkness, replaced by more fiery bursts, over and over in a brilliant palette of colour. Particles of energy in a state of plasmic excitement, he’s told her - but to her it’s magical. The most amazing thing she’s ever seen.
The best fireworks display in the universe, the Doctor told her while they were on their way. But that’s like comparing Lake Windermere to the Atlantic Ocean. This... this is incredible. Words can’t describe it.
The Doctor nudges her. “Better than shepherd’s pie?” His grin takes her breath away. She’s never seen him this happy. He’s bouncing with excitement, eyes alight with joy.
And he’s still thinking about her mum. She shakes her head. “You’re so weird.”
“Most beautiful thing you’ve seen, though, yeah?” He waves at the sky.
“Yeah, it is.” And she’s still looking at him.
