Everything I do, I do to make my heart sing. ~ Michael E. Angier
What do you do that gives you joy? When I came across this quote, I liked it and thought this would be an easy blog post to write, but guess what, it isn’t. In fact, it’s pretty darn hard. I thought I did all sorts of things that make my heart sing and fill me with joy, but I really don’t. I don’t know that
any of us really do. Sure I do things that make me happy. I enjoy reading, and spending time with friends, and of course my kids. Those are all things that make me happy. Happiness is good, but joy is even better. Don’t think I’m downplaying happiness, because I’m not. Happiness is awesome and I hope everybody is happy! But happiness isn’t joy. I think joy comes when we stop thinking about ourselves. It can come when you’re giving of yourself completely to help somebody else, or it can come when you’re sitting in a field watching a bird take flight. It can be found when you’re watching the awesome power of a thunderstorm, or skiing down a mountain. I think that’s when you experience real joy and your heart sings, when you stop thinking about yourself and you just are.
