You were put on this earth to achieve your greatest self, to live out your purpose, and to do it courageously.
Why am I here, what is my purpose. It’s a common refrain uttered by many every day. I think we are all destined for great and amazing things. But what constitutes great and amazing? I recently spent time with one of my students who was writing a speech for graduation – his theme was about heroism, and what constitutes a hero. Certainly the men and woman who go to war are heroes, and our police and fire fighters are heroes. There are some that would even say that teachers are heroes. But what about the student who has to babysit their younger siblings all night every night so their parents can work, or the students come to this country speaking no English, but are still in school every day, struggling to learn? How about the mom or dad who has lost their job and is sending out resume after resume and calling any and all potential employers only to face rejection day in and day out? Or the person who is battling addiction, and slowly winning, or worse losing, but still trying again. They’re all heroes. They are all living out their lives with great courage and purpose, trying to be the best possible people they can be. It’s how we all must live.
