It’s All About the ‘Tude

Share on:

Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference. – Winston Churchill

noun
1.  manner, disposition, feeling, position, etc., with regard to a person or thing; tendency or orientation, especially of the mind:
a negative attitude; group attitudes.
2.  position or posture of the body appropriate to or expressive of an action, emotion, etc.:
a threatening attitude; a relaxed attitude.
3.  Aeronautics. the inclination of the three principal axes of an aircraft relative to the wind, to the ground,
4.  Ballet. a pose in which the dancer stands on one leg, the other bent behind.
etc.

Attitude.  One word, lots of different meanings, and while the third and fourth definitions are important, especially to pilots and ballet dancers, it’s the first two definitions that interest me the most.  Growing up, I’m sure you were told many times to watch your attitude by your parents, usually because your attitude was negative, or, for lack of a better word, bitchy.  Chances are you did have an attitude, and it was probably pretty darn negative at times, and even if you weren’t aware of it, that attitude colored everything you did.  And guess what?  It’s still the exact same today.  We all have things we deplore doing, but they have to be done.  When you focus on how much we hate the task at hand, it seems endless, and is fraught with difficulties.  But if we approach it with a more positive attitude, that same task can be a bit more palatable.  Our attitude colors everything we do, and honestly, how well we do it.  So do your best to cultivate a positive attitude, no matter what the task.  It will make things go better, and save the ‘tude for Friday nights out with your friends!
