Ninety-nine percent of the failures come from people who have the habit of making excuse. – George Washington Carver
When I first read this, my automatic response was that it was a pretty harsh statement. Then, I started thinking. I thought about my students, of course, but more importantly, I thought about me. I fail at a lot of things. So I started thinking about why I fail, and I realized, I do make a LOT of
excuses. My go to excuse is that I’m too busy, but you want to know something? I’m not too busy. I am lazy. I’d rather spend my time reading or goofing off online than I would doing what I really need to get done. Things like get my budget and cash inflow and outflow in check. I read something this weekend. It was from a website called Notes on Bliss, and the article was entitled 15 Magical Ways To Manifest Your Desires. It was really good, you should read all of it, but one thing in particular stood out to me, and it was about physically preparing for your dreams to come. If you want to attract more money to your life, straighten out your money now. That’s simple, and it makes great sense, and it’s something you should do anyhow, but I don’t. Why? I have a million excuses why. I’m too tired (ok that’s not an excuse, but whaaaa – I am capable of powering through it) I’m too busy, I keep track of my checking account online. I have a million excuses and all of them lead me to failing to keep my spending in check. Same goes with my writing. I have a million excuses as to why I don’t write. Guess what? I am NEVER going to be a success, and to me that’s a failure, until I stop making excuses and just do it. Same goes for my students, and for everybody else. Stop making the excuses and just try. Just by trying, you’ll be more of a success than the rest of us who are still making the excuses.
