It Starts With One Person

Never believe that a few caring people can’t change the world. For, indeed, that’s all who ever have. – Margaret Mead

Change can happen, and it starts with one person.  Whenever I think about people taking a stand to try and change something, my mind inevitably goes to the picture of the young man staring down a squad of tanks in Tiananmen Square in China back in 1989.  But I’m also old and there are far more current examples.

it starts with one personThe #metoo movement started when a handful of women had enough and were sick of being victimized simply because they are female.  And that small group of students from Florida who have virtually rallied a nation after a shooting in their school.  They are forcing people to look at gun laws and school safety.  High school students.  Kids!  And please don’t think I’m discounting the impact our young people can have, because I’m not.  In fact, I’m celebrating that this huge amazing change started with a handful of people who aren’t afraid to speak their minds and who won’t back down.

We all have the ability to enact change in our lives and in this world.  It starts with one person, it starts with you.  You don’t have to go out and save the world, but you never know.  The change you make in your own life could encourage a change in somebody else and so on and so on.  So take a good look at yourself and see what you can change because it starts with one person.
