Let Go of the Past

Share on:

Let go of the past and go for the future. Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you imagined.  – Thoreau

So many times I find myself remembering something from my past and cringing in shame or embarrassment. Logically, I recognize the fact  that this is an exercise in futility.  What good does living in the past do?  None – it does no good.  In fact, it can really hinder you when you’re in pursuit of your dreams.  If you spend all your time thinking about the yesterdays, you won’t have much energy left to move forward toward the tomorrows and your dreams.  Does that mean you should forget who you are and where you came from?  No, of course not.  Your past is a part of you.  You can remember your past, but you don’t need to dwell on it or focus all your energy on it.  Focus your energy on your hopes, goals and dreams, and use the past as your yardstick to see how far you’ve come.
