Detours are a Good Thing

A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery while on a detour. ~ Author Unknown

This particular quote has meaning for me on so many different levels. My children are learning how to drive right now, so we have spent a lot of time talking about lane placement and turning and such, and what to do if you wanted to make a left turn but were in the right turn only lane by mistake. I keep impressing on them the importance of just going with the flow and not sweating it. Who knows what they’re going to discover if they make a wrong turn. Plus, it’s very easy to get back on the right road.

We also talk a lot about how this philosophy translates well to life as well.  You may have a destination in mind, and a path you’re going to take to get you to that destination.  But sometimes, life tosses road blocks or detours in your way.  You can deal with them a couple of  different ways.  You can get angry and be resentful about these detours, or you can go with the flow and enjoy the the new path your on as you head toward your destination.
