The remarkable thing we have is a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. – Charles Swindoll
The other day, I was talking about attitude and how you can make your own day, and it’s true, you can….you can tell yourself to have a good day. It sounds really simplistic, but when it comes right down to it, YOUR ATTITUDE is the only thing that you can control. You have no control over the weather, or the mood of your boss, or the waitress at your favorite diner. You have no control over things like that. What you do have control over is YOUR attitude, and how you react to the situations around you. Do you let other people drag you down, or do you sail through their storms unscathed? That choice is pretty much up to you.
I’ll be the first to admit that maintaining a cheerful, positive, upbeat attitude can be pretty darn hard when you are surrounded by naysayers who are spouting gloom and doom all around you. I always think of
Snoopy dancing around, and Lucy getting all angry and screaming. Instead of letting it get him down, Snoopy just dances a little harder. That’s kind of what we need to do. When people are telling us no we can’t, or that’s impossible, or just generally trying to inflict their bad moods on us, we need to dance a little faster and sing a little louder.
Really, you can waste your time, effort and energy trying to control everyone around you, or you can focus on controlling the one thing you really can control. Yourself.
