Setting Goals

Share on:

Go as far as you can see;  when you get there, you’ll be able to see farther. ~ J.P. Morgan

I’ve been thinking a lot about goals lately.  In my work as a teacher we have SMART goals, and in life, you also need to have SMART goals.   SMART goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound.  I had my students working on goal setting today and one of the students goals was to finish 9th grade.  I asked him by when, and his response was NOW.  That is not realistic – he’s not going to learn it all today :).

The thing about goals is even though they are, or should be time bound, when you reach them, a new goal will pop up in the distance for you to achieve.  I’m thinking about my own goals.  I have 3 that I am working on, and if I do this right, when I achieve them, they’ll actually morph into new goals.  It’s much like Mr. Morgan said…when I get there (to the end of my goal) I’ll be able to se farther to the next goal I wish to achieve.  I hope you’ll all join me in reaching new goals.
