The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any. – Alice Walker
So many of us think we have no power. Nothing is up to us, and we don’t control anything, and we exist to cater to the whims of others, be it our bosses, our parents, or our significant others. The list is endless. Guess what, it’s not true. We all have power. We have the power to say NO, we have the power to negotiate, and amazingly, we have the power to do things. My students are always quick to point out that they have no power. They have to come to school, they have to do the work. No, they don’t. However, it is beneficial for them to do so, and by doing it, they’re actually giving themselves more power in the form of knowledge. Life is like that. Things that look like they’re out of our control can often times be very beneficial.
The absolute only time we don’t have any power is by thinking we don’t have it. We do have it. It may not look the way you think it should, but it’s there. Open your eyes and open your mind, and find your power!
