More than Enough

Share on:

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. – Melody Beattie

Remember yesterday I said the quote was part of a larger quote…today I used more of it, but I love the whole quote so much I need to share it here.

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.

It’s such a beautiful quote and it speaks to me so deeply.  I had a lot of down time today, and so I spent some serious time thinking about this quote and how it applies to my life.  I’ve always thought I’m a pretty grateful person.  Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t mind having more.  I’d love a bigger home, and a newer car, and it would be great if my job paid more.  But even as I think those things, I’m very happy that I have a home to live in, and my car runs well, and I have a job that I enjoy.  I’m glad for those things, but I don’t really know if I am grateful from the tips of my toes to the top of my head.  My heart is not filled because of the things that I have.  It’s hard to find that very fine line between wanting to better your current situation and being grateful for what you have.  I think sometimes I can be almost greedy when I’m thinking about what I want.  It’s something I’m really going to work on  – the being grateful from head to toe for what I have and I’m doing it for two reasons.  One because I really do believe this quote – filling my heart with gratitude just makes my life that much richer, and two, because I am so grateful for what I have, I’ll be open to receiving more.  I think we all should try it!
