Before I start, I just wanted to say that I’m traveling for work the rest of the week. I will get the posts up. They’ll be pretty erratic when it comes to time of day. Thanks for understanding! And without further thought….on to the quote.
Life is without meaning. You bring the meaning to it. The meaning of life is whatever you ascribe it to be. Being alive is the meaning. ? Joseph Campbell
I’ve spent a lot of time talking with my own kids about what they want to do with their lives. One of them has always had very definite plans while the
other has kind of been lost in a sea of possible career possibilities. When pushed, the only response was, “I don’t know. I just want to help people and I want it to be meaningful.” Which leads me to wonder what actually is the meaning of life, and more importantly, is it different for everybody.
Well the answer to the second person is yes, it is very different for each and every person. What makes my life meaningful probably wouldn’t matter to anybody else. But it matters a heck of a lot to me. The meaning of life is a little bit more challenging, and people have been wondering about that, probably since they first started thinking. According to Joseph Campbell, and I really like the way he puts it. Being alive is the meaning. To me, that’s saying that YOU are the meaning of life, and I am the meaning of life. We all are.
It’s kinda cool when you think about it that way. The meaning of life is you! It’s all of us. It’s who we are and it’s what we do. That’s pretty powerful when you really think about it. Everything we say and do, and everything we believe is part of the meaning of life.
