Be Willing To Let Go

Share on:

We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us. – Joseph Campbell

Once upon a time, a long long time ago, I had a plan for my life.  I’m betting you did to.  Where I am now is nowhere near where I planned to be.  That’s okay.  I had to be willing to let go of my plans to have the life I have now.

be willing to let goHave you ever seen those posts on facebook talking about what would you do differently if you could go back?  I have to say, if I could go back and talk to my younger self, I’d tell myself to do everything I already did – except I’d say to use my babysitting money to buy stock in Apple.  Why?  Because while this life is not the life I planned, it’s made me into the person I am today, and I kind of like me.

Having a plan is good – it’s great even.  I am all for plans.  In fact I love plans.  But I am also open to the speed bumps life throws in our way. Those bumps and those detours have brought me to where I am today.  Is my life perfect? Absolutely not.  Not only is it not perfect, it is light years away from where I planned to be.  But do you know what?  I have two amazing kids, a job that I love, and amazing friends all because I was willing o let go of what I planned and accept what I have.

There are aspects of my life that I am not happy with, of course, and that’s okay.  I’m working on them, and I’m working on me, and yes, I have a plan.  But I’m not married to that plan.  I have goals, I have life destinations in mind.  I’m sure you do to.  Keep working on those plans and destinations, but be willing to let go of what you planned because what’s coming may be even better.
