There are things I can’t force. I must adjust. There are times when the greatest change needed is a change of my viewpoint. – Denis Diderot
I had a very definitive plan for my life. I knew exactly how everything was supposed to go. I had it all completely mapped out. But then life
happened. Seriously. What I had planned out had absolutely no relation on how my life has turned out. I had it all figured out, I was going to teach high school history and go to law school at night. Well, I teach in a high school, so I got part of it right anyhow. The point is, when life started going on a different track, I had to make the shift, I had to change my perspective and how I was looking at things.
We can’t make people do what we want, and we can’t make life go the way we want. We can certainly try, but we’re not really going to get anywhere. I play the powerball on Wednesday on my way home from work. So today, I went to my regular store and the guy told me their lottery machine had been down since morning. Okay, it’s Wednesday, I have my powerball plan, so I hopped in my car and zipped down the road to the next store. Guess what, their machine was down too! So now I had to make a choice, I could keep driving to different stores looking for a store that had a working lttery machine, or I could make a shift in my plan and not play powerball. I chose to make the shift!
Goals and dreams are great, and they are very important. You’ll never hear me say otherwise, but don’t forget that sometimes you have to adjust. You need to make changes in what you’re doing, or change your viewpoint. Don’t try to force it, instead make the shift and see what happens.
