Epilogue
“Dean, Jessica!! Get down here or you are going to be late for school!”
Max walked towards the play pen and picked up little baby Ethan. He gave him a kiss on the forehead and wished his son a very good morning.
“Now mommy is having a rest today because she’s very tired, so Daddy is going to stay at home and play with you all day!” he smiled, as Ethan held out his little chubby hands and grabbed his chin.
“Da, Da!”
“Oh my god, you said Da, Da. Well done little buddy!” said Max, beaming with pride.
“Of course he said Da, Da. You’re his favourite!”
Max turned and looked at his beautiful wife.
“What are you doing up already? This was your day to rest, that’s why I’m not working today.”
“Well maybe if you didn’t scream so loud, at the bottom of the stairs, I might still be asleep.”
“You know what day it is today, don’t you?”
“Of course Max, how could I forget?”
“Well go back to bed and I’ll bring you your breakfast. While you’re up there get the kids to come down would you, otherwise they aren’t going to have enough time to eat breakfast before the school bus arrives.”
“Sure Max,” she said, as she gave him a peck on the lips.
As he watched his pregnant wife walk or rather waddle up the stairs, he started remembering why this day was so special.
FLASHBACK …..
After the warm blast wave hit him, he was knocked to the ground. He never wanted to get up ever again. What was the point of his existence without her? He just wanted to curl up and die. Not only had he lost her but he had also lost his children.
He was sure that if Liz knew she was pregnant, she would never have gone through with it. He knew she was no longer alive because their connection had been severed right after the explosion.
Why didn’t Zan and Michael let him go to her? Why did they hold him back?
The more he thought about her sacrifice the angrier he became. He should have trusted his gut instinct and gone back to get her instead of freeing the prisoners! How could he ever live with himself now?
As flashes of her burned and crushed body entered his brain, tears spilled from his eyes and a guttural roar of pure pain and agony left his lips.
“WHY!” roared Max.
What shocked everyone the most was the fact that Jeff was the first to walk up to Max and place a hand on his shoulder.
“I don’t blame you for her death Max, far from it. I’m not happy that she sacrificed her own life to save all of us but I know in my heart that you did everything you could to protect her. Jesus Max, you gave us another two years with our baby girl. She would have been shot in the Crashdown that day, if you hadn’t of saved her. For those extra two years, I can never repay you. You will always be welcome in my home any day,” said Jeff, his voice cracking with all the emotions that were running through him.
“It’s true Max, we can never repay you for giving us those extra years with our daughter. I’m so sorry that she has been taken away from us,” whispered Nancy.
Although she was completely heartbroken at losing Liz she never wanted Max to believe that she blamed him for it.
All this forgiveness was turning Max’s stomach.
“D-don’t y-you understand? This is all my fault! All I had to do was go back for her, my gut was telling me to but my head told me to trust her!!! I’m not fit to be a human being let alone a king!”
Diane cried out as she saw the broken look in his eyes.
“No Max, don’t say that! The only fault here lies at Khivar’s feet!”
Max couldn’t take it any longer. He felt physically sick. He stood up and ran as fast as his legs would carry him.
Zan went to chase him but was held back by Michael.
“He’s gotta work this out on his own Zan. He’s lost the one and only person that ever made his life worth living and now she’s gone … along with his children. How would you feel?”
“I just want him to know that we’re here for him,” said Zan.
“He knows that man. He just needs time,” replied Michael.
His lungs were starting to burn with the exertion but he didn’t care. He had to keep going, running away. The pain was too much to bear. As his muscles started to cramp he fell to the floor and just let the tears run freely.
How the hell was he supposed to go back to earth now? She was his only reason for ever wanting to stay there and yet he didn’t belong on Antar either. As the uncontrollable sobs wracked his body he felt a small hand on his shoulder.
“Max?”
No it couldn’t be? It was just a figment of his imagination. His want for her to be alive was too great and his mind was playing tricks on him. He didn’t dare look up.
“Max?”
She felt real but then he couldn’t feel the connection. He couldn’t stand this much longer.
“Liz?” his voice was hoarse with emotion. “Please, please let this be real. I-I can’t stand it if it’s not real.”
“Max, look at me. I’m real, I’m here and I’m alive,” said Liz, through her tears.
She took an audible gasp when she saw the pain etched across his beautiful face. He collapsed into her arms and sobbed.
“You’re real, y-you’re actually real?” asked Max, as he wrapped his arms around her waist and leaned his head against her stomach. The connection he felt towards his children sprang to life and the image of the twins entered his head. They were sending calming feelings to their father. They could already sense his sadness and despair.
Max stood up slowly and finally looked in to those beautiful brown doe eyes.
He placed his hand gently on her cheek, as if she would break under his touch, or disappear.
“Max, I’m here and I’m not going anywhere, okay? I’m safe Max.”
“How?”
“The granilith. When the white beam hit the palace, it transferred me to the inside of the granilith where I would be protected from the blast. Now that Antar and the rest of the planets have been returned to their former glory, it will take the granilith years to recharge. We can still use it to teleport to earth, as I have sent the second part back. It’s the only way to guarantee that nobody ever abuses its power.”
Max stood up and brought his lips crashing down on Liz’s. He forced his tongue in to her mouth feeling the need to taste her, to finally know that this is real and not his imagination. When Liz returned the kiss just as passionately Max pulled back, cupped her face with his hands and looked directly into her eyes.
“Marry me Liz. I don’t want to spend another day without you by my side, as my wife, the mother of my children.”
“Yes,” said Liz, smiling.
“Yes?” asked Max shocked, after everything she’d been through she still wanted him for him.
“Yes Max, I will marry you!”
END FLASHBACK
She walked up the stairs and found the kids in their rooms.
“Good morning Dean, how are you this morning?”
“I’m okay mom.”
“How’s school?”
“It’s okay but I’m finding it hard.”
“Hard because you have to hide who you really are?” asked Liz.
“Hard because sometimes I want to use my powers but I know the risks.”
“Well your dad needs you downstairs now. You’re going to be late for the school bus.”
Dean got up off his bed and kissed his mom’s belly.
“Hi little sis we’ll see you soon,” Dean whispered, as the little hand print glowed. “I love you Mom.”
“I love you too Dean. Try and have a good day at school today.”
“I’ll try, don’t worry about Jessica Mom, I’ll go and get her. You go back to bed and rest.”
“Thank you honey, send her in for a kiss good morning though would you?”
“Of course!”
Dean left the room and went to get his sister. Liz went back to the bedroom and got back into her comfortable bed. As she pulled the comforter over her body, Jessica entered the room.
“Good morning Mom, I suppose she is due any day now?”
“Yes sweetie she is.”
“I can’t wait to have a little sister,” said Jessica, kissing her Mom on the cheek.
“Go or you won’t have time for breakfast.”
“Bye Mom, take care, love you!”
“I love you too.”
Jessica and Dean walked down the stairs to find a very frustrated Max.
“How come your mother is the only person that can get you to do as you are told?”
Dean and Jessica just looked at one another and smiled.
“Sorry Dad,” they said in unison.
“Cereal,” was all Max said, pointing at the now full bowls but smiling when his back was turned.
Max was just making some toast when he heard the chairs scrape across the kitchen floor.
“DAD!” shouted Dean.
Max spun around to see a dark hooded figure heading towards Ethan.
Liz had heard Dean shouting and she was running, as best as her pregnant state would allow, down the stairs.
“Dean what’s wrong,” she shouted, as she got to the bottom of the stairs.
She saw the hooded figure go to pick up her son when a blue bubble shield appeared around the crib.
Jessica and Dean grabbed hands and used their combined power to blast the intruder, followed closely by Max’s blast. The intruder exploded into a pile of ash.
“What the heck was that Dad?” asked Dean.
“I have no idea, son but I’m going to contact your uncle Zan and ….”
Max never got to finish his sentence as his dupe suddenly appeared scarred and dripping with blood.
“L-Liz w-we need y-your help …” said Zan, before collapsing on the floor.
THE END
AND NOW THE STORY CONTINUES!!
Prologue.
“Oh my god Max!” shouted Liz as she watched Zan collapse to the floor. She ran towards him and tried her best to get down on the floor but the size of her pregnant stomach would not allow a graceful manoeuvre.
“Mom what’s going on?” asked Dean.
Max ran over to the unconscious Zan and formed an immediate connection. He didn’t need to look a person in the eye anymore because he’d learned how reach out with his mind.
He took a virtual tour around Zan’s body trying to find all of the injuries that he’d sustained. He had a fractured skull which was causing a swelling of his brain, as well as minor injuries.
He concentrated his all his power on fusing the fractured skull bone first and then turned his attention to the swelling of his brain. Once that was under control it didn’t take him long to heal the other injuries.
Dean and Jessica watched as the skin on Zan’s wounds started to close and knit together.
“Is he going to be okay?” asked Jessica.
“He just needs some rest until he gets his strength back,” replied Max.
“Erm ... I’m kinda guessing that’s Uncle Zan considering he looks so much like Dad?” asked Dean.
“Yes sweetie, this is your Uncle Zan but I was hoping you would meet him under better circumstances,” answered Liz.
Max shot a worried look at Liz. He knew that the idyllic life they’d known so far was about to come to an end. This is what they had been dreading since the defeat of Khivar.
“Call the others?” asked Liz.
Max just nodded his head.
Liz walked towards the phone and started to dial the first number.
“Maria, it’s time,” was all she said before she replaced the receiver and dialled another number. She repeated the same message to Alex and Kyle.
“Dean, help me get Zan upstairs and on the bed so he can rest. You both won’t be going to school today,” instructed Max.
“What? Why?” asked Jessica.
“Are you kidding me?” asked Max incredulously. “We’ve just had some sort of alien pop into our home and try to attack or take Ethan. What if they come after you next? You both may have your powers but you might not be strong enough to defeat several of them at the same time. Plus we’ve called a meeting with the others and you don’t want us making any major decisions without you, do you?” inquired Max.
“What kind of decisions are we talking about?” asked Dean.
“Look we don’t know what’s going on yet Max. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves until we find out the situation,” said Liz.
“Come on Dean let’s get Uncle Zan upstairs,” said Max putting Zan’s arm around his shoulders and lifting him to an upright position. Dean took the other arm, dragged Zan up the stairs and placed him on the bed.
“Dad I know there is something you’re not telling us, you’ve been blocking our connection and so has Mom. What’s going on?”
“Look right now we don’t have a clue what is going on until Zan wakes up but it may mean that we have to go back to Antar for a little while.”
“WHAT? All of us? What about school and stuff?” asked Dean.
“Like I said Dean we’re not sure what’s going to happen just yet. You and your sister might be able to stay with one of your Aunts or something. We’ve got to wait for the others to arrive and then we will all decide, okay?”
“Max we have guests” shouted Liz from the bottom of the stairs.
Dean and Max headed downstairs and saw the rest of the group and their kids sitting in the living room. They all had tentative looks on their faces. Michael was the first to get up on his feet and shake Max’s hand.
“Good to see you again Max. How is everything?”
“Well pretty damn good until a few minutes ago,” stated Max.
“What has happened Max?” asked Isabel. “When we got the call from Liz we grabbed the children and teleported straight over.
“Yeah, us too,” confirmed Kyle as he put a protective arm around Serena.
“Someone or rather something teleported into our house and tried to take Ethan,” explained Liz.
“WHAT!” screamed Maria.
“WHAT THE HELL?” asked Alex.
“So what, they’re after our children now?” asked Serena.
“We don’t know why the intruder wanted Ethan but he already has his powers. He sensed the danger and raised a shield around himself. It was strong enough to blast the damn thing away from him but not enough to kill him. Dean and Jessica handled the situation,” stated Liz.
“Then Zan showed up all battered and injured and asked for our help before he collapsed,” said Max finishing off the story. “I’ve healed his wounds and he should be alright but we are waiting for him to wake up so we can find out exactly what’s going on.”
“So someone tried to take Ethan?” asked Isabel, worried about her own children.
“Yes we believe that’s what he wanted to do either that or kill him,” shuddered Liz.
“Surely we can’t just sit around here waiting for Zan to wake up. We don’t know what’s happening back on Antar. Where the hell is Ava? Why did this thing try and attack Ethan? What if they are waiting for our help?” asked Maria.
“I suppose I could try and dream walk him,” suggested Isabel.
“No you can’t Isabel. If you get pulled into his subconscious you might not be able to get out. He might still be recovering from his injuries. I’ll do it,” said Liz.
“But Mom you hate using that power,” said Jessica.
“Yes I do hate using it but I don’t have a choice. Maria is right. What if Ava is in trouble on Antar and is awaiting our return. I have to find out what is going on.”
Liz walked towards the stairs before Max gently grabbed her arm.
“Look, be careful Liz. I don’t want you under any undue stress,” said Max pointing at her protruding stomach.
“I’ll be fine Max, don’t worry. Is he in our room?” asked Liz.
Max nodded and followed her up the stairs along with the rest of the group and the children. They all had a vested interest in finding out what was going on.
Liz entered the bedroom and walked quietly over to Zan. She placed her hands on each side of his head and concentrated on getting into his mind.
A bead of sweat trickled down her face. “He’s blocking me Max.”
“Stop then Liz we’ll just have to wait until he wakes up. I don’t want you exhorting your energy.”
Liz gave one final mental push and got past the first wall but was greeted with another one. He’d learned a lot in the years they’d been apart. She spoke to him telepathically hoping that somewhere in his mind he’d hear her and allow her access to his memories. There was no way she wanted to use the mind rape on him because she knew from personal experience how painful that could be, but it might become necessary if he didn’t allow her access.
She could picture the wall in her mind and sent a blast wave towards it, only to find it still there. There was no other choice. She concentrated all of her energy around her hands and sent a pulse of green energy into his mind. The wall smashed and his memories where there for the taking.
She ran through each memory like a slide on a projector until she found what she was looking for. She entered the memory and watched the horrors unfold before her eyes.
*******
The group paid close attention to Liz when they saw the green energy absorbing into Zan’s head. He cried out in pain as the last of his defences were destroyed and his memories searched.
*******
Liz was standing inside a massive white room, covered with gold ornate decorations. There were numerous tables in the room which looked a lot like white marble. Each table had a map of the five different Planets in the Whirlwind Galaxy and currently they were looking at Antar.
“So we have more traitors high up in our chain of command. There is no other way that the information could be leaked otherwise.”
“We have to find out who it is. Maybe we need a certain person here so they can seek them out so to speak,” said Ava.
“We can’t ask her, Ava. She and Max have a whole other life on Earth and part of them relinquishing the throne to us was so they could live that life.”
“I know that Zan but what if we don’t find the traitors in time. They might have a whole heap of different trouble then, and they won’t be prepared for it. Plus she needs to know what the seers have foreseen.”
“We can’t tell her any of it Ava. You know that if someone knows too much about their future that it might actually make the prediction come true. If we interfere it could be detrimental not only to Max and Liz but to all the other lives at risk as well.”
“She has a right to know Zan,” argued Ava.
“You know the Seers have warned about the dangers of them finding out too early. They could make it worse. Look we are doing everything we can here to prepare for it, so they won’t be alone but right now we have more important matters to deal with. We have to deal with the here and now rather than the possible future.”
“I wouldn’t worry about the future for now, Zan. You don’t have any!”
Liz spun around to see a high ranking guard walk through the door.
“General Asos, what are you talking about?” asked Zan.
Before Zan had a chance to react the General sent a burst of energy towards them. Both he and Ava went flying backwards through the air and hit the wall hard, collapsing onto the floor in a heap.
She was pushed forcefully out of Zan’s mind and fell off the bed onto the floor.
“MOM!” shouted Dean, running to her aid.
He assisted her off the floor and walked her over to a nearby chair.
“Mom, are you okay?”
“Yeah, yeah I’m fine. I just need a minute okay.”
Liz took a few deep breaths and calmed her nerves. When she looked up all eyes were on her.
“Well?” asked Michael in his usual gruff tone.
“All I know was that Zan and Ava were attacked by one of their Generals. He shot a blast of energy towards them and they hit their heads on the wall. Once they had passed out I was knocked out of Zan’s mind. I need to get back in,” said Liz raising from the chair and walking towards the bed again.
“Liz, you are exhausted. You’re burning up and you’re sweating. Don’t you think you’d better rest before you attempt it again?” asked Maria as she placed a cool hand on Liz’s forehead.
“I’m fine Maria. I need to do this,” insisted Liz.
“Liz?” Max looked at Liz with concern in his eyes. “I want to know what’s going on as well but not if it means that harm will come to you or the baby. Zan’s already kicked you out once. He might not like you poking around in there and do something more severe.”
“I HAVE to do this Max.”
Liz placed her hands on each side of Zan’s head again and found it a lot easier to get in this time. His defences were still down.
She searched through more of his memories and came to one which she thought was relevant. She panicked at first because she couldn’t see anything. It was pitch black all around her. Then suddenly a door opened and light spilled into the room.
“Zan, Ava?” she heard a voice whisper. She strained against the light, to see who was there, but the brightness of it hurt her eyes.
“Zan you have to wake up. I have to get you out of here!” whispered the figure in a harsh tone. She felt dizzy all of a sudden and the room started to spin.
*******
“Oh god I think I’m going to be sick!” shouted Liz.
Everyone in the room watching Liz jumped in fright not expecting her to say anything.
“Max we should stop her from doing this. Something isn’t right. She’s not feeling good,” said Maria.
“You know I can’t stop her once she’s in there Maria. If I try, we could do more damage. We have to wait until she comes back out again.”
*******
The room slowly stopped spinning and then she watched as Zan woke up and tried to stand up. As soon as he put pressure on his leg to stand, he collapsed again.
Two other figures came through the light of the door and took both of Zan’s arms and dragged him out of the room.
“Come on we don’t have much time.”
“What about Queen Ava?” asked one of the figures.
“We don’t have time. Zan can come back for her later. We have to go now or we’ll all get caught!”
*******
The scene around her suddenly changed and she was now standing in the granilith chamber on Antar.
She watched as Zan used the granilith to teleport straight to earth.
********
The room suddenly started to spin again and Liz was starting to get dizzy. All of a sudden she was transported into another memory of Zan’s.
He was standing in front of a woman who looked like she was blind.
“What have you foreseen?”
“Hold my hands Zan, join with me so you can see for yourself.”
“I thought that was not allowed?” asked Zan in confusion.
“It usually isn’t allowed. We are only supposed to give you the relevant information to help guide you but what I’ve seen, even I don’t understand it.”
Zan gently placed his hands in hers and was sucked into her mind, as was Liz.
She was standing in what only could be described as Time Square in New York. The traffic was at a standstill and everyone around her was looking up.
Her head followed in the direction they were staring and her heart rate increased. She watched as the horrific sight unfolded right before her eyes and then all she could see were people, people running and screaming.
“NO! THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING!” screamed Liz as she was thrown across the room again.
She hit the floor hard.
“Ugh!” she yelled as a pain shot through her back.
“LIZ!” shouted Max as he ran to her side. “What’s wrong Liz? What the hell happened and what can’t be happening?”
“The baby Max.”
“What?” asked Max confused.
“The baby Max, it is on its way!” she shouted as another contraction hit her hard.
“Ahhhhhhhhhh” she screamed.
“Oh my god Max, her waters have broke!!” shouted Maria.
Everyone sprang into action.
“Get her on the bed!” shouted Max.
“I’ll go and get some towels and warm water!” shouted Maria.
“Erm ... we’ll put the kettle on!!” shouted Alex, Michael and Kyle at the same time.
Max and the women couldn’t help but laugh at the disgusted looks on the men’s faces, or the look of total fear. All three of them hurried out of the room taking the children with them.
“Isabel, are you okay to do this?” asked Max.
“I’ve done it what, how many times is it? Ah yes, five times now Max. I’m sure I can handle it.”
“But the baby isn’t due just yet.”
“I don’t think anything is wrong Max. This little one just wants to meet the family,” smiled Isabel.
She went to the end of the bed. Covered Liz from the stomach down and then lifted the sheets by her feet. She gently moved Liz’s legs apart and bent her knees.
“Right we’re all set. The baby is crowning so I don’t think this is going to take long. Hurry up with those towels would you!” shouted Isabel.
Max had hold of Liz’s hand which, at this present moment in time, he was totally regretting. She had one hell of a grip on her when she was going through labour. She was almost crushing his bones but he just sat there doing the breathing exercises with her.
He’d made the mistake of trying to heal himself the first time she had gone through labour with the twins but Liz had given him a look that would even make hell freeze over.
“Max, so help me god, if you try to heal your hand when I’m going through so much pain I will blast your ass back to ANTAR!”
And he knew she meant it. Women could have nasty tempers when they were in labour. Both his sister and Maria were the same apparently.
“Liz, on the next contraction you have to push, okay?” said Isabel in her calm tone.
“WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK I’VE BEEN DOING ISABEL!” shouted Liz as another one hit.
“Ahhhhhhh,” Liz screamed as she pushed as hard as she could.
“Okay Liz one more big push and we should be there!” shouted Max.
As another contraction hit, Liz pushed with what little strength she had left and was rewarded by hearing her new born baby cry.
Isabel handed the baby to Maria while she cut the cord and then washed him over with the warm water, wrapped him in the towel and then handed her over.
“Liz, meet your impatient little daughter!”
Tears filled Max’s eyes as he looked at his beautiful wife and daughter.
“Have you decided on what name yet?” he asked. They had been discussing it for weeks now and couldn’t come to a decision.
“Samantha, I want to call her Samantha, Sam for short. What do you think Max?”
“I think Samantha is a beautiful name for her Liz” replied Max.
A sudden look of fear came over Liz’s face and Max couldn’t help but ask.
“What’s wrong Liz?”
“I saw something when I went into Zan’s memories. I’m not quite sure what it means but if I understood it right ... earth will be attacked.”
“WHAT!” screamed Isabel.
“You weren’t supposed to see that Liz. That’s why I booted you out of my memories,” said Zan walking through the door.
Max stood up from the side of the bed and made his way towards Zan.
“It’s good to see you again,” he said shaking his hand and then pulling him into a manly hug.
“Good to see you too but there is no time to waste. We have a major problem.”
“No shit, Sherlock,” replied Liz.
T.B.C......... maybe :? ....?
