Be Open to Others

When we are open to others and ready to show them our friendship and affection, this immediately creates a good environment – Dalai Lama

Opening yourself up to others is, in my opinion, one of the hardest things you’ll ever do.  It’s sad, but it’s true.  We’re taught, at an early age, to hold a part of ourselves back from the rest of the world.  We’re taught not to really trust others, and we’re taught to expect disappointment from those around us.  I don’t even think our being taught to live this way is a conscious decision by our “teachers” aka our parents.  They’re just teaching us what they were taught.  If you take a second and think about it, you’ll find that I’m probably right.

But is this the way you want to live your life?  I don’t think it’s the way I want to live.  Holding people at arm’s length all the time is time consuming and honestly, it’s a little bit lonely.  Instead of closing yourself off from people, open yourself to them.  Let them into your heart, and let them see the real you.  Make yourself emotionally accessible to them and find out how it changes your world.
