It’s a Good Time

This time, like all times, is a very good one, if we but know what to do with it. – Ralph WaldoEmerson

I spent a lot of time thinking about this quote today.  I like it, it has a positive message, but I was having a hard time trying to figure out what exactly to write about, and how this actually applied to me.  Well, I think I got it.  I got married a little over 22 years ago (I’ve since been divorced, but that’s another story), and today, I related a story from our wedding to my daughter, and that’s when it hit me.  Something like that is a PERFECT example, or at least my wedding was.

We had a fairly large wedding, and I had all these plans and ideas about how I wanted EVERYTHING to be.  Of course, next to nothing went the way I wanted it to in my mind, and I focused (and sometimes still do) on all the things that went wrong.  That’s actually kind of silly, and pointless when you think about it.  Instead of worrying about things going wrong, look at all the things that went right.  Take my wedding – I looked amazing that day, and the food was fantastic.  But what do I think about – the fact that some of the guests showed up wearing jeans (don’t ask) and that the reception place forgot to serve coffee before with the appetizers.  Pretty silly, now that I think about it.

Life is like that – things go wrong, mistakes are made, life goes on.  While it’s going on, don’t dwell on the mistakes or the things going wrong, think instead about what’s going right.  Find what’s good, and focus on that- enjoy the now
