Love Who You Are

No amount of self-improvement can make up for a lack of self-acceptance.- Anonymous

This is an exceptionally telling comment because I am working very hard to make changes on my outside.  My actual goal is to be “Hella SEXY!” lol but I know that no matter what happens on the outside, if I’m not happy with who I am on the inside, none of those outside changes will matter a bit.

To me, this is a pretty basic concept, but I don’t think a lot of people get it.  If you look at the poor people who suffer from eating disorders, their self-perception is so distorted that they can’t see who they really are.  No amount of weight loss is going to make them happy.  I know that’s a pretty basic view of eating disorders, and my heart goes out to anybody who struggles with that illness, I’m not trying to belittle it at all.

I’m thinking too about people who constantly have plastic surgery, or who are always at the gym sculpting their bodies.  They are trying to find some perfect ideal for their physical self.  Maybe if they took the time to get to know the person they are and make some internal changes, they’d be happier with what’s on the outside.  The thing is, those internal changes are often far more challenging than any external change could ever be.

So when you’re modifying your eating, or incorporating exercise in an attempt to fix your outside, don’t forget to do a quick evaluation of your inside and love the person that you find there.
