As we grow as unique persons, we learn to respect the uniqueness of others. – Robert H. Schuller
Every year, or local cable access channel televises our high school graduation, and every year, I watch and complain because I can’t recognize a single girl. Sure they all have on the same cap and gown which makes it a challenge but also, because 98% of the girls all have long straight hair. There is nothing unique or different about any one of them.
People are afraid to be different. I’m not saying that it makes sense to flout convention and walk around naked all day. There are certain things we ALL have to do, but at some point in our lives, there comes a time when we should realize that we’re not sheep, and we don’t have to follow the rest of the flock in every single thing we say, wear and do, and in every single thought that we have.
When that happens, something else amazing happens, we begin to develop a respect for those we previously thought were out of synch with the rest of society. We begin to respect individuality and uniqueness. So why not start now? Why wait for it to happen on it’s own. Take a stand, or a step away from the crowd and follow your own heart and your own mind.
