Let it Go

Share on:

One of the most rewarding moments in life is when you finally find the courage to let go of what you can’t change.

I was in my early 20’s when the movie Pretty Woman came out, and I wanted Julia Roberts hair in the worst way.  I did everything possible to have hair like that.  I had perms, I colored my hair, I did whatever I could, but I never ever came close.  Even as the years went on, and I had many different hair styles, deep inside, I always wanted the hairsyle from Pretty Woman.

Not too long ago, I was goofing around with an online hair thing where you upload a picture of yourself and “try on” virtual hair styles.  You KNOW the first one I tried was the Pretty Woman hairstyle!  Guess what, it looked HORRIBLE.  I mean simply and terrbily horrible.  It was in that moment of looking at my face, with Julia Roberts hair, that I let go of something that I had been holding on to for over 20 years.

Now the thing is, when it comes right down to it, wanting a particular hairstyle for years, and finally letting go isn’t a HUGE thing, but I know there are HUGE things I’ve been holding on to for years.  Holding on to those things isn’t helping me, and in fact it’s hurting me.  So I’m going to work on letting go.  It’s not going to be easy, but I am learning to accept that there are some things I can’t change.  It’s a big step, and it takes a LOT of courage, but I can do it.  So can you!
