Figure It Out

Share on:

Once you figure out who you are and what you love about yourself, I think it all kinda falls into place. ~ Jennifer Aniston

So first let me start by saying how much I love this quote!  When I read it yesterday, it made me smile inside and out – and that’s a GOOD feeling! Then, as always, I started thinking about this quote, and I started trying to apply it to myself.  I know who I am.  I’m a mom first and foremost.  I’m a teacher, and a friend.  I’m a daughter, a sister and a friend.  So yeah, I have a pretty good idea about who I am.  The part I, and I’m thinking a lot of people struggle with, is what I love about myself.  Sadly, my answer is not much.  I don’t really think there is too much about me to love, and that is something I’m working on.  I don’t like my physical appearance, and I need to lose some serious weight.  Not to be beautiful, not to be sexy, but to be healthy.  So I’m working on that.  I’m trying to eat better (it’s an ongoing struggle) and I’m hitting the gym on a semi-regular basis.  And one thing I’m NOT doing is bashing myself if I miss a gym day or eat on the unhealthy side.  That’s a good thing.  I tend to be very negative about myself, and I think a lot of other people do.  Logically, I don’t get it.  I would never, in a million years talk to a friend the way I talk to myself about myself.  I need to treat myself better and try and focus on the good things about me.  So do you!  We all do.  So yeah, I’m kind of waiting for it to all fall into place, and it’s not going to do it until I start acknowledging the good things about me.  It’s not going to fall into place for you either, until you do the same.  Start making a list of good things about yourself.  Be honest.  Look at yourself objectively, as if you were a stranger you were just meeting for the first time.  Figure out what is good about you.  There are lots of good things about you.  Start complimenting yourself.  We’re brought up not to be egotistical and talk about our accomplishments, but you know what?  If you do something good, shout it out to the world.  Be proud of what you do and who you are.  Learn to love yourself and then, as Jen said, it will all kinda fall into place!
